Yeah, sign me up!! I've watched enough of the SAW series to not be freaked out by death, especially if it was to erradicate some useless piece of garbage like her from the earth.

What's the SAW series?

it's a MOVIE. Chat Icon

Oh my. I'll just say that I think the de-sensationalism of violence by movies, TV, etc to the point where we think we know what murder or death is because we watched it is a whole other thread.

I am actually really, really disturbed by the thought that violence on TV has desenstized someone so much that you think killing anyone wouldn't freak you out. Have you ever watched someone be put to death? All the movies in the world can't prepare you for that.

I agree, I don't think you can see some thing on TV and believe you have really experienced it and the fact that some people do scares me.

I have to say I am a little Chat Icon about how her potential feelings of remorse and guilt about killing her daughter are completely flushed down the toilet...

but that kid who's idiotic driving killed 2 people...his "remorse" and his itty bitty sentence was good enough there??? especially since HE too was said to be "stoic" and his "remorse" was conveyed in WORD by his attorney...not by his own actions or words.Chat Icon

Those are two different cases in my mind anyway.

That teenage driver did not kill his child and then try to cover it up, then go out with my friends and act "relieved" for the next few weeks. He acted stoic, but not carefree.

That kid made a mistake that resulted in the deaths of two people. It's terrible and it could have happened to one of us when we were younger. Can everyone honestly say that they NEVER drive over the speed limit and the ALWAYS pay 100% attention when they drive. I can't.

But I can say with a good degree of certainty that I will never murder my toddler and then act relieved and happy to be free.

Give me a break ladies, because I'm ANGRY at the fact that this woman killed her daughter and I made a tongue in cheek comment about SAW movies, all of a sudden I'm a deranged and desensitized killer?!? If wanting to sit sideline or even hitting the switch to see this b!tch suffer makes me desensitized, then sign me up! As a MOTHER, I could never ever see hurting a child (mine or anyone elses for that matter).

to further play devil's advocate...you ARE hurting someone else's child. this woman has a mother too. a living mother, that will also see HER daughter killed.

now we can go round and round about this...but for every point, there is a counter point....which is why the LAW has to take it's time and make the right decision for this case.

Give us a break. No one said you were deranged and no one said you were a killer. I said I am disturbed that someone could be so desensitized by violence on TV that you think you would be just fine watching ANYONE be killed, by death penalty or not. And I stand by that. As someone who HAS witnessed it, I can say that nothing on TV and no outrage you feel for the crimes that have been committed can prepare you to watch someone be killed by another human being, no matter how "humane" we think the procedure is.

EVERYONE is angry about what happened to that child. That's a totally different part of this conversation than being desensitized to killing...

I'm against the death penalty in most cases. This case is hard. I understand why people feel like she should die but I also wonder if it will be more of a punishment to put this woman in prison for the rest of her life . Everyday she will have to think about what she has done and most likely in a solitary situation. I can't imagine she would be placed with the general population because of the risk.

So am I. I really struggle with people "playing God" with a life. Who am I to say that someone should die? I know the same could be said about murderers, but two wrongs don't make a right.

At the same time, I will say that I definitely struggle less with the idea of the death penalty when it's a crime against a child. Kind of a double standard but it's tough either way.

Re: Casey Anthony...does anyone have an argument as to WHY she should not get the death penalty?

I'm always conflicted in these issues. I personally feel she should suffer for the rest of her life on earth in Jail. Jail is suffering, with guilt or not. Her life should be made so miserable for every last second.

If she IS that mentally ill that she feels no remorse, How can you justify killing her if she has a mental illness? It does not need be an excuse, just can't understand it kwim?

I do not feel "sorry" for her regardless if she is mentally ill or not, I just always in cases of possible mental illness have a hard time deciding what the right thing to do is.

I hope they find her sane b/c then she will suffer guilt and pain.

My heart breaks in a million pieces for that poor baby Chat Icon

As a mom, you hurt my baby, I will kill you myself. I just dont' see how she could have done that to her own child.

As far as the death penalty goes, I'm aganist it for a number of reasons. And let's face it, jail is no 5 star resort. Yes seh gets fed and clothed but she has no freedom.

I am for the death penalty and feel, if she did indeed perform this DISGUSTING crime, she deserves it. And, let me say, God forbid if someone did this to MY child, you bet I would be able to watch them die. No qualms, whatsoever....

I feel the same way. I can't waste my energy trying to come up with all the reasons why she should not be put to death - after what she did, she's just not worth my time.

As my FIL would say: NEXT!!!

I know it is harsh - but that's how I feel.

To answer the OP - I guess the people who do not believe in the death penalty would be the ones who feel she should not get it. I know a lot of people who are against it for religious reasons.

Re: Casey Anthony...does anyone have an argument as to WHY she should not get the death penalty?

Has anyone seen her list of "purchases" from jail? Makeup, snacks, etc. Not exactly what I call punishment considering she most likely discarded her daughter like a piece of trash. She's a manipulative self centered twit and I think life in prison is the WORST thing for her. I could just envision her wrapping those male guards around her little finger like she has done with her attorney and every other man in her life. I firmly believe in an eye for an eye and she should be put to death IMO.

Re: Casey Anthony...does anyone have an argument as to WHY she should not get the death penalty?

Someone who could do something like this to her child, is mentally ill. I am not using this as an excuse, but you are not sane if you are able to commit a crime like this. Especially since she has no remorse!

None of us can judge her, she has not be convicted of anything.

To be for or against the death penalty is a personal choice, and no one should be judged for their choice.

With that said, if she is guilty the decision should be left up to the court system.

None of us have all the facts and none of us should be casting judgment on her until she is tried and convicted.

I am not a doctor to determine is she is mentally ill or a monster and selfish.

It's my OPINION that she is mentally ill to be able to do something like this ( if she did) and its your OPINION she is a monster.

Thats the wonderful thing about the country we live in, everyone can have their own OPINIONS and EVERYONE is innocent until proven guilty.

There are a lot of women who are not ready to be mothers - who are young and irresponsible, and would rather be out partying, but they do not kill their children.

All the cases we have seen in the recent past of this, the mothers have been mentally ill, whether suffering from PPD or some other illness.

As for the OP question, I do not believe in the death penalty. This does not mean I do not think people should be punished for heinous crimes. I also agree with quasi in that she should be tried, and although it is difficult not to pass judgement, aren't we "innocent until proven guilty" in this country?
