CD12, IUI and low progesterone question
My daughter went to Dr. B on CD12 for bloodwork and sono. He couldn't see an egg, and said she may have "just ovulated' so he told her to go home and take an OPK. She did and she got a . She called him and he told her to come in that afternoon for IUI. He said her bloodwork showed no (or very little) progesterone and she has to go back on Sat. for more bloodwork. She took another OPK on Thurs. just to see and it was negative which means the LH surge had passed. Could the surge go up and down without actual ovulation? And what if her test on Sat. comes back with low or no progesterone? Can they give her progesterone in case she does conceive from this IUI?

Yes you can get + OPK's without actually ovulating. It only measures the level of LH. Progesterone is the best measure for ovulation, usually done on CD 21 or 7DPO.

I think they can give her the progesterone if needed, they do like to start it early though - she should definitely ask about it.

Re: CD12, IUI and low progesterone question
I was given progesterone for my 2nd IUI (which unfortunately didn't work for me). But there are several girls that had an IUI and began them immediately after and still got their BFP.
I think it really depends on the doctor. From what i've seen/heard, the first IUI cycle i don't believe its as common to prescribe. For the second, it seems more common (especially because the dr has seen the test results). However if he see's that she has low progesterone to begin with they might automatically give her the suppository. It should definitely be something she needs to ask about from the beginning if its a concern.
