CD12 IUI, low progesterone question
My daughter wentto Dr. B for a sono on CD 12 Wed. (thinking she'd ovulate either Fri or Sat) He was not able to see an egg but said she may have "just ovulated" She went home and took and OPK and it was So she called & he told her to come in that afternoon for IUI. He told her she had none (or very little) progesterone in the blood work he had done that morning. She is going back tomorrow (Sat) to have bloodwork again to see if progesterne level went up. She took the OPK again on Thurs. just to see and it was negative, which shows the LH surge had passed. She couldn't have a if she actually didnt ovulate, could she? Also what does it mean if there is little or no progesterone on day 12 when IUI is done?

Re: CD12 IUI, low progesterone question
You can get a positive with an OPK and not actually ovulate. All the OPK does is detect the LH surge but there is no guarantee the egg will actually release and you will ovulate. The only way to know for sure would be through sonos and blood work.
Low progesterone is not a good thing. Without enough progesterone in your system you will either have a difficult time actually conceiving or worse.......you will have a much higher risk of miscarriage early on in the pregnancy. You need high levels of progesterone to sustain a pregnancy. When progesterone levels drop off it causes the uterine lining to shed and then you get a period.
I had low progesterone during my first pregnancy and I had to be on progesterone supplements until week 12 of my pregnancy when the placenta took over at which point it's no longer an issue.

Re: CD12 IUI, low progesterone question
Thank you for your responses. She was not on clomid, Dr. B felt since her OPK shows a every month, she gets ovulation symptoms and her periods are very regular, they would do a "natural" IUI. I had a feeling low progesterone is not a good thing. I don't want to tell her anything and freak her out. She will get the bloodwork tomorrow and talk to Dr. B and we'll see what he says.
