CDC Guidelines for Opening School
I don't know if anyone saw this but the CDC quietly posted their regulations today regarding opening school. Basically, it's never going to happen. I don't know how to post a link to it but highlights below:
These are the new CDC guidlines for reopening schools. They include: ? Wear masks over the age of 2 ? No sharing of any items or supplies, all belongings in individual cubbies or labeled containers; no sharing electronic devices, toys, games, learning aids ? Desks 6 feet apart, all facing the same way ? Distance on school buses- one child per seat, skip rows ? Install sneeze guards and partitions wherever you cannot space 6ft apart ? One way routes in hallways; tape on sidewalks and walls to assure kids stay 6ft apart ? No communal shared spaces - cafeterias, playgrounds ? Physical barriers or screens between sinks in bathrooms ? Only pre-packages boxes or bags of food instead of cafeteria food; kids eat in classrooms ? No field trips, assemblies, or external organizations in the schools. Limit volunteers and visitors. ? Same children stay with same staff all day, no switching groups or teachers. ? Stagger arrival and departure times for students to limit exposure to crowds of kids. ? If possible, daily health and temperature checks. ? And several rules about cleaning and disinfecting throughout the day and hand washing frequently.

Interesting that they snuck it out today - they also issued public pool guidelines.
It doesn't sound fun, or sustainable... Wearing a mask in an un-airconditioned classroom while it's sweltering hot in early September for one thing...

Ok. So the no switching of teachers— can the high school teachers teach all subjects? Can the earth science teacher teach an English class? Can a math teacher teach a social studies class?? My dd is only going into third grade but that question crossed my mind)

Re: CDC Guidelines for Opening School
These will obviously need to be revised. They aren't remotely realistic. It's like they are setting us up be like "oh well, online (fake) school it is!"

I was thinking the same since my DS is in middle school... Upper grades can't keep the same teachers all day.

Well this is never going to happen. So my only child is never suppose to interact with another child for the foreseeable future. Sounds great for his development.

Sounds like it. If that is the case these districts better find out a way to steam a classroom and have a teacher teach. I am fortunate enough to be able to work from home for now, but sorry..”teaching”. the evolution of a caterpillar is not letting me get my job done that is essential to pay the bills! (Nor am I equipped to teach!)

Re: CDC Guidelines for Opening School
most stupid and ridiculous guidelines ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most children in elementary school will not keep masks on.
This so unrealistic. Like i have said I am just going to prepare myself now that they are not going back in September. I am pissed and down already might as well get it all out now.
My only hope is that as the months go by they will change it or maybe things will be more calm.
They just changed their stance on catching the virus by touch surfaces and object maybe they will change their minds for school too and are setting this for summer schools and daycare! (one can have a little hope )

I’d also like to add that currently my district is preparing 1700+ free meals a day. People are cooking those meals and then delivering them to the students’ homes. I guess that goes against the guidelines so we should just stop doing it (kidding obviously).

Right? Using this logic, restaurants should be permanently closed down too. Even for take out.

Re: CDC Guidelines for Opening School
I don't work in the schools but I think some of those things are doable. Not all, but some. They could make hallways one way. All the kids have their own supplies anyway. Bring your own lunch everyday is annoying to me but doable.
I am more than willing to see some of these things happen just so the kids can go back to school.
I think staggering arrival times to do temp checks is a reasonable idea honestly. I don't know how that would work but we can figure it out. It will definitely lessen incidents of strep, flu and viruses as well.

Re: CDC Guidelines for Opening School
Who works at the CDC and is coming up with this stupid guidelines? 90yr old men who forgot what it’s like to have kids or even what school is?
The stupidity has been so irritatingly aggravating. I don’t know how much more I can take. I feel like I need to become a hermit and get off the grid. But hey thats CDC approved!!

Bring your own lunch is not doable for everyone, many kids depend on free lunch.
This is why these guidelines piss me off. I’m sure they will still provide free lunch but don’t write down a rule that states “to bring your own lunch”. Assuming everyone can do it. I just feel like the guidelines assumes everyone can partially homeschool, everyone can wfh, everyone has money to buy and pack cute little lunches, everyone has free childcare or can event afford extra childcare/tutors to supplement for this stupid suggested schedules.
I wouldn’t even know how to find someone to watch my 11yr old.

CDC Guidelines for Opening School
So people want schools open but there to be no guidelines and nothing changing about how things are run. Am I right with that? Just open in September like nothing is going on and too bad for anyone who might get sick or might die or might bring it home to an elderly parent or grandparent that they then kill. I don’t think you’re going to get to have it both ways. Either there are guideline and schools open or they say these things aren’t sustainable and it’s online. I’ll admit these CDC guidelines are tough but they’re doing it in other places why can it not be done here?

And on that note, there are children who qualify for free breakfast and lunch because their family cannot afford proper meals. I guess those kids are SOL now right?

Schools would still provide lunch but they would be prepackaged like uncrustable sandwiches or lunch ales. Not made on site.

no recess! No gym! Stay in your class all day! No exercise of any kind! We'll have a generation of overweight, undereducated, anti social sociopaths with a tendency towards diabetes. But as long as they don't ever get this virus

Basically what it’s turning out with this whole pandemic is “Eff the poor / struggling, small business owners, our freaking kids!! ”

Where is this magic money coming from to install things like shields inbetween sinks? To reconfigure rooms to have desks instead of tables?
I believe there needs to be guidelines but I’m also realistic that most schools do not have the funds to do this.

That sucks. I can’t believe people are ok with that. They will get the ****** sandwiches you get when you don’t have your money or forget your lunch ticket. I would feel so bad for them. But hey as long as no one ever gets sick, who cares how these kids would feel emotionally.
Also all this employees who will lose their job, probably too old or unqualified to get another one. But hey, who cares about them too.
ETA: this isn’t directed to the person I quoted but just the whole idea and stench of privilege.

They don’t all require money though. And I’m sure doing some of them is better than doing nothing. And nobody said they’re not providing food for kids who need. Just that it needs to be packaged. So what

Pretty much. Yes. The more uneducated and submissive and scared we are, the less chance that kids will become successful independent adults, and then they will have to rely on the government 100% for everything. Win win situation!
They want us to say these rules are not worth it and let's just do online school. And if that happens, all the kids will be getting together with their friends every day anyway and doing all the things that they don't want kids to do that are on that list above. So it's pointless.

I get what you are saying but the risk of getting a virus or worse always existed. Kids are allowed to go to school who have hepatitis, HIV, or other contagious and dangerous diseases and all was just fine.
