So people want schools open but there to be no guidelines and nothing changing about how things are run. Am I right with that? Just open in September like nothing is going on and too bad for anyone who might get sick or might die or might bring it home to an elderly parent or grandparent that they then kill. I don’t think you’re going to get to have it both ways. Either there are guideline and schools open or they say these things aren’t sustainable and it’s online. I’ll admit these CDC guidelines are tough but they’re doing it in other places why can it not be done here?
I get what you are saying but the risk of getting a virus or worse always existed. Kids are allowed to go to school who have hepatitis, HIV, or other contagious and dangerous diseases and all was just fine. Last I checked you don’t get HIV or hepatitis from breathing on someone.

at this point I hope they come out with vaccine ASAP so every ones that is willing to take it will and then everything can go back to normal!
I wont quote everyone but there can be guidance but these are unrealistic.
Also where are guidelines during flu season??? There are none but it was ok then to just go to school!! what about when all other outbreaks happened those are ok to just to send out kid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yes I am clearly over it all )

why do you think a vaccine will help the situation? People get flu shots all the time and people still get the flu.

But you can get almost any childhood illness from breathing on someone. In adults, this is more deadly than the flu. But as far as children, far more children die of the flu. Yes, they may bring it home to their parents, grandparents, etc. But the reality is, nobody is locking their child inside their home for another 6 months. They will be out and about with other children, having playdates, etc. So they still risk getting it and bringing it home. I would rather my child be in school if that risk will be there no matter what. I don't disagree with you that we can't open schools like they were in before March. I actually think most of these guidelines are not that bad. I will happily support all of them if my kids can go back to school.

I am an adult and I work in a school. I also am not shutting myself inside forever. Every teacher in my school wants us to reopen with precautions in September. Because we see first hand what this is doing to children.

Totally agree. We miss our students, and I have 13 year old twin boys, and it is taking a toll on them. One has Autism, and it is hard, and my other son, he missed out on so much. He lost his class trip to Washington Dc, his sports he plays. I am seeing some depression and anger in him, and it upsets me so much.

Agree.
This would be so emotionally damaging to children, especially for those with emotional or learning issues. I do not want my kids in a situation like this. School is suppose to be a happy, social, wonderful experience and this is absolutely horrifying.

School needs to be mostly business as usual. These are literally RIDICULOUS guidelines in every imaginable way possible. Kids need to be social, play on the playground, have gym and interact with eachother. School is suppose to be fun, educational and social. This will not work. Don't even get me started on the utter stupidity of the bussing and staggered times.
Set up antibacterial stations, encourage more hand washing, disinfect schools throughout the day and that's it. It HAS to be mostly normal like it was before the virus, kids cannot learn in an environment like they are describing. 90% of schools couldn't implement this anyway and just think of the cost associated with something like extra bussing. Insanity.

You can get hepatitis from coming in contact with saliva. A lot of people spit when they talk. Not saying it's the exact same thing, but it's not that far off.

I will admit that it is not the best examples but my opinion still stands - we cannot keep schools closed for years to come.

CDC Guidelines for Opening School
Every other business and place of work will have guidelines in order to reopen. Why should schools be any different? Because your emotions are tied to it? If there aren’t guidelines in place when they open they’ll be closing again sooner than you think and then You’ll be back here ******** about it.

Guidelines are fine. I don't mind having to use hand sanitizer before entering or exiting each class. I don't mind changing lunch procedures, or having a partition between bathroom sinks, or one way hallways. It's annoying but not horrible.
But desks 6 feet apart is unrealistic. Never leaving the same classroom all day for middle school and high school is silly. Masks all day long is ridiculous. No extra curricular activities is bad. And buses will never work the way they propose.

The guidelines NEED to be realistic and practical to implement. This list of guidelines is simply absurd.

Spot on. If there is no socialization, then I might as well keep them home. I can't even believe people think this new reality is acceptable. DH and I have talked about it and we're going to be disenrolling the kids from school. I can pay for someone to come to the house to teach them. So technically they will be home schooled, but I won't be the one teaching. Going to start looking out of state because it seems silly to pay these taxes when we're not utilizing the schools. We were already on the fence, but this is all we needed to see to make the decision.

Re: CDC Guidelines for Opening School
These new guidelines sound joyless. No playgrounds, sports, extracurriculars, etc. That's just awful, just as so many districts were beginning to realize the importance of play based learning. I feel bad for the kids with a bad home life. School is an outlet for them. Every ounce of joy erased from their lives. It's so sad.

Prison sounds better to be honest
It's funny because DH and I have been wanting to move the hell out of this state for a long time now. We always say if it wasn't for DD we'd be there already. But we didn't want to pull her out of school at this age and rip her away from her friends etc. So we were waiting for her to finish High School. But if she isn't going to be able to actually go to school and actually see her friends...well what's keeping us here then? She can remote learn from anywhere. So why not make that anywhere a place with lower taxes, a better governor, better weather and a better quality of life?
