CDC recommends masking up in some locations …

Masking is a recommendation now but it will end up being a mandate because the people who follow the recommendations are already vaccinated. The unvaccinated are the ones refusing to wear a mask and the only way to mitigate is to mandate masks.

and now that vaccinated people are getting sick, they are more than annoyed of the pushing of a vaccine that obviously is not protecting everyone.

This is backwards thinking. The vaccine provides a lesser level of protection against the Delta variant. IF more people had gotten vaccinated, the Delta variant would not be spreading as rapidly and would have much less opportunity to mutate and the level of infection among vaccinated would be lower.

AND, what WW tends to conveniently forget, one major reason the vaccine IS effective is proven in that very small number of hospitalizations and deaths that she likes to talk about. The vaccine IS EFFECTIVE in keeping the cases mild in the breakthrough cases that are occurring.

Vaccinated people are dying also.
This vaccine was pushed as it is 98% effective (excuse me if that number is incorrect) and that if you do get sick, it will be minor. Minor does not mean being hospitalized and dying.

We don't even know if vaccinated are getting sick from unvaccinated as there are not stats (as far as I know) out to prove this.

So what happens with the next variant (as there are always variants for viruses and flus), everyone needs to get a new vaccine and still mask forever because it might or might not protect you?

Among the vaccinated, as of July 19, the CDC had received reports of 5,914 COVID-19-related hospitalizations and deaths out of more than 161 million fully vaccinated people in the United States.
99.2% of all the people dying from COVID-19 in the U.S. are unvaccinated.
97% of current COVID-19 hospitalizations are of unvaccinated people.

An example of how vaccine rates effect the population of a State:

In the state of Missouri, only 40% of people are vaccinated. In some counties within Missouri, as few as 14.7% of the residents are vaccinated. Not surprisingly, the state has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases through the middle of July, with 2,000 to 3,000 new cases per day. The rate of spread is also increasing. Already, some hospitals are running out of ventilators and intensive care beds.

Contrast this with Massachusetts, where 63% of people are fully vaccinated. Though the state is also seeing an increase in cases, total new infections numbered only around 200 to 300 per day. The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Massachussetts is also down 95% since January 2021.

As of July 20, 2021, Missouri had 1,357 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, almost 13 times more than the 106 patients in Massachusetts. This is despite Missouri’s having a slightly smaller population that is much more dispersed.

How do you know that? Do you take a survey everywhere you go and ask them if they are vaccinated or unvaccinated?

I got vaccinated as soon as I was able to here in MA and will not be wearing a mask again (I’m also in a substantial spread area). This is what I’ve been hearing from most everyone since yesterday, and we’re not exactly right wingers up here lol. Done, over it and not happening. I’m in a very high vax rate area which makes it even more ridiculous. “Cases” may be high but hardly anyone is hospitalized. Enough is enough.

I think yesterday’s CDC recommendation made people realize that this could truly never end. It was easier to tolerate when there was an end goal (“vaccine or effective treatment” were my gov’s words last spring). We’ve reached that goal and at this point we’re going in circles.

I feel similarly. Obviously, if I'm required to wear a mask, though, I won't have a choice.

I think if the ultimate goal is to encourage vaccination, bringing back mask mandates is not the way to go. People who are unvaccinated are unlikely to be persuaded to get vaccinated if they have to continue to wear a mask even when vaccinated.

If TPTB want to encourage vaccines, well, then, focus on the vaccines, not the masks.

I'm not an expert. This is my opinion.

I read something somewhere once that said something along the lines of - this ends when the people decide they've had enough.
You can't go around arresting people who wont' wear a mask. If enough people decide they are done, there's not much they can do.
I watched a video of a guy who went into a Trader Joe's maskless back when the mandate was still in place and they were following him around the store as he shopped saying he had to leave and he kept saying, no, go call the cops, just call the cops. They didn't. He did his whole shopping and left.

Even the sheriff in CA said he will not enforce the mask mandate they put back in place.

It should be optional as if you feel you are safe being masked, unvaccinated or vaccinated, then by all means, mask up.
Eventually, just like everything in life, we have to take care of ourselves and do what we feel comfortable with.

The government isn't involved in this for YOUR health or MY health. This is a PUBLIC health matter that has much farther reaching implications than whether or not any one person gets COVID. This has the possibility of once again completely overwhelming our healthcare systems and shutting down our economy. That's why it matters.

I'm sorry but that guy is an @sshole.

This doesn't end when people say they've had enough. The virus doesn't care if you're "tired" of it or over it. It will keep on killing people and spreading and mutating until more people get vaccinated or just die of the virus until only vaccinated and naturally resistant people survive- either way achieves herd immunity.

To be clear, I'm not saying I *hope* this happens, but that's the logical outcome. The end goal wasn't a vaccine, the end goal is herd immunity.

CDC recommends masking up in some locations …

I know quite a few young people who won't get vaccinated. Not because they are against the vaccine, but they are against the government sort of "forcing them into it". So the more the government pushes, they say the less likely they are to get vaccinated. Which is assanine to me.

ETA: they are forced to wear a mask at work. But I highly doubt they do outside of the office.

Masking is a recommendation now but it will end up being a mandate because the people who follow the recommendations are already vaccinated. The unvaccinated are the ones refusing to wear a mask and the only way to mitigate is to mandate masks.

That's interesting. I do believe they are going to have a much harder time with compliance this time around.
It's been too long of this. Too long. Eventually people break and say no more

I think yesterday’s CDC recommendation made people realize that this could truly never end. It was easier to tolerate when there was an end goal (“vaccine or effective treatment” were my gov’s words last spring). We’ve reached that goal and at this point we’re going in circles.

Cuomo will not be mandating masks per his presser.

Am I incorrect to say mutations always are less than the original virus?
