Masking is a recommendation now but it will end up being a mandate because the people who follow the recommendations are already vaccinated. The unvaccinated are the ones refusing to wear a mask and the only way to mitigate is to mandate masks.
I got vaccinated as soon as I was able to here in MA and will not be wearing a mask again (I’m also in a substantial spread area). This is what I’ve been hearing from most everyone since yesterday, and we’re not exactly right wingers up here lol. Done, over it and not happening. I’m in a very high vax rate area which makes it even more ridiculous. “Cases” may be high but hardly anyone is hospitalized. Enough is enough.
That's interesting. I do believe they are going to have a much harder time with compliance this time around. It's been too long of this. Too long. Eventually people break and say no more
I think yesterday’s CDC recommendation made people realize that this could truly never end. It was easier to tolerate when there was an end goal (“vaccine or effective treatment” were my gov’s words last spring). We’ve reached that goal and at this point we’re going in circles.
I read something somewhere once that said something along the lines of - this ends when the people decide they've had enough. You can't go around arresting people who wont' wear a mask. If enough people decide they are done, there's not much they can do. I watched a video of a guy who went into a Trader Joe's maskless back when the mandate was still in place and they were following him around the store as he shopped saying he had to leave and he kept saying, no, go call the cops, just call the cops. They didn't. He did his whole shopping and left.
I'm sorry but that guy is an @sshole.
This doesn't end when people say they've had enough. The virus doesn't care if you're "tired" of it or over it. It will keep on killing people and spreading and mutating until more people get vaccinated or just die of the virus until only vaccinated and naturally resistant people survive- either way achieves herd immunity.
To be clear, I'm not saying I *hope* this happens, but that's the logical outcome. The end goal wasn't a vaccine, the end goal is herd immunity.
Am I incorrect to say mutations always are less than the original virus?
I don't even know what you mean by that. Less what? Deadly? Resilient? Common?

I didn't say what he did was right. And I would never do it. But there ARE people who are done and don't give a shitt anymore and sadly it's reality. You can't make everyone go on like this for the next 20 years- it's not sustainable. You can't expect everyone to be good citizens and care about anyone but themselves. Society has shown us that time and time again with many many things. Right wrong or otherwise. Such is life. To think everyone will put their masks back on now because the CDC said so, is naïve. Vaccinated people right on this thread have said so themselves. I was actually on Amazon yesterday browsing masks for my DD since I have a feeling they'll be having to wear them in school again and I typed in "breathable masks" to see what better options might be out there. One of the options that came up was a full on mesh mask - like fishnet. All 5 star reviews from people saying, if they are going to make me wear it, I'll wear this one. It meets the rules of having on a "face covering" and stops the "mask police" from saying anything to me but at least I can breathe. So right there- right there is the mentality in this country at this point. Is it right- No. Does it exist, absolutely.

I'm actually shocked.

Not really sure what you are asking.
From what I have heard, Delta variant has the same level of health risk (for lack of a better term), but is much much more easily transmitted

Honestly, I don't think the mask restrictions should have ever been lifted. You are right, people won't want to go back to wearing masks, I mean if they ever followed the rules and wore them in the first place. But that doesn't mean that this ends. It actually will make it go on longer and longer.
I do agree that more research needs to be done to treat the virus in addition to the vaccines. I also don't think we should really waste any more money on trying to convince people to vaccinate themselves. The people who wanted to get the vaccine have already gotten it and the people who won't will not change their minds no matter how many facts and figures, or free donuts, or tickets to a baseball game, or even money that you throw at them. I don't think there's ANY easy way out of this.

This is an article from Feb 2020 and speaks to virus mutations in general and has nothing specific to the CURRENT mutation of the COVID-19 virus. Useless information relative to the Delta variant.

So we may be asked to put a mask on again at the grocery store so people feel safe. Ok. But didn’t they determine many months ago that most of the spread was occurring in homes, at parties, gatherings, etc.? Still will.

I hope people start getting smart again (maybe the lack of oxygen from masks is what is making people this way) and not ask how high when told to jump.

Right, most of the spread was at home gatherings, because no masks or distancing protocols were in place. There most likely would have been greater spread in public spaces if masks were not worn. They can't dictate what you do in your own home, but as you know, those gatherings were highly discouraged. And they can mandate what happens in public places to attempt to mitigate damages as much as possible

Not wearing my mask and not putting one on my kids till school (cause i know the Bull$h!t will extend there). They can take their "recommendation" and shove it. Not doing this back and forth game. Covids not going anywhere and Biden and his crew are sad that everyone's not falling into line but its just not gonna happen. 100 percent of the world will never be vaccinated. So move on and stop with the mask on, mask off bull$h!t. End rant lol

Funny how the WH does not require people to be vaccinated either to go there. If they were so concerned, they would make it mandatory for everyone. They will probably lose a lot of their media presence if they do this.

But how do we even know these tests coming back are positive for Delta? No one wants to answer that as I haven't seen anything saying there are 2 different types of tests. They just automatically put you down as having the Delta variant now?

They tend to be. Mutations in viruses and other microorganisms have always naturally happened, before vaccines and after vaccines. That’s one of the ways how viruses have lasted for billions of years so vaccines will not change that. It’s silly when people say these variations are happening because people won’t vaccinate, it really is. We don’t survive by ignoring their existence or depending on products like vaccines to half protect us from them and that can bring us adverse effects, but by learning to coexist just like we do with any organism that lives in our environment, outside and within us through our own defenses (individually) and through natural herd immunity (collectively).

That’s right. They can’t dictate what u do in ur own home, thank goodness! But maybe that’s why DeBlasio was pretty much encouraging regular people...the neighbor, family member, friend to say something if somebody wasn’t following the rules. Maybe that’s why there was so much entitlement last year to tell others to wear a mask, wear it over the nose, social distance, etc. etc. etc., or to report a business if they weren’t complying. There’s always ways to make people do what u want them to do.

How do you know that? Do you take a survey everywhere you go and ask them if they are vaccinated or unvaccinated?
On a whole, people will either comply or not. If they’re willing to be compliant in terms of the vaccine, they’re more likely to be willing to comply with a mask recommendation. And vice versa. If someone refuses the vaccine because they either aren’t worried about getting covid or don’t want the government telling them what to do, then presumably they aren’t worried about getting covid or going to do what the government tells them to do, which are both reasons for following a mask recommendation.

Maybe, but I know a lot of people who got vaccinated so they could stop wearing the mask, and go back to a semblance of normal with seeing friends, travelling etc. Those people will not wear a mask because they feel they shouldn't have to since they did what they were "supposed to" and got vaccinated. I hear a lot of- well why did I get a vaccine if I'm right back where I was a year ago? So there are 2 sides to it.
