Cervical Length?
Does anyone know what the normal cervical length is at 33-34 weeks? I had a sono and they said it was 2 cm. Everything I am finding says it should be between 3.5 - 4cm, but that is more for the second trimester. The doctor said it was short and I will have another sono next week, but I was curious if anyone else had a short cervix at this point??

Re: Cervical Length?
For me at 34 weeks they wanted 2.5 at 36 weeks, they said it didnt matter, labor could happen.
eta- Keep in mind, two different sono techs can measure different and it can lengthen again.

Thanks I'll have another in a week and I guess at this point we're pretty safe either way, but between the contractions and now this it's just a little unnerving!!!

Re: Cervical Length?
Sorry to crash...I had a similar problem when I was pregnant with DS. The OB was hoping my cervical length would stay at 3 cm, but I was measuring 2 cm...and each week it was getting a little shorter.
A transvaginal sonogram will give you a more accurate measurement than if they do it on your belly. My OB kept an eye on it but wasn't super concerned because I was close to 36 weeks at that point.

It was a transvaginal sono that gave the 2 cm number. Did you end up delivering early because of it? I'm just not sure how worried I should be at this point. They don't seem overly concerned, but he did mention that I was at higher risk for PTL

Re: Cervical Length?
My cervix was short, and I was on bedrest for a week. it did go back to normal until I hit 29 weeks but they weren't concerned at that point. take it easy, lay down as much as you can and don't do much housework, shopping etc

I ended up delivering at 38 weeks. The OB told me he wouldn't stop me from delivering if I made it to 36 weeks. No one knew that my cervical length was shortening until I went into L&D for PTL a few times. I already knew DS was going to come earlier than 40 weeks because of PTL. I had a couple FFNs done and was put on brethine/terbutaline for the last few weeks to make sure DS made it to term. I don't think the cervical length had anything to do with it- more so my "irritable uterus" as they called it
As PP said, I would take it easy. You're almost there! I spent as much time off my feet as possible towards the end so that DS wouldn't put extra pressure on my cervix.
On a different note, DH's cousin was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced at 28 weeks or so. She was put on bedrest till 36 weeks and now has a beautiful DD who was born at 37 weeks!
