Re: Christmas Lights...white or multicolor
Outside, we only use white lights. I do like the colored ones too, but we really like the conservative, classic look.
For inside, DH has always been partial to the multicolor on the tree inside. I like white, so we've always alternated years. Last year I actually went out and got a prelit artificial with white lights so I win for a long time to come.

White inside and out. My home is from the 1800's and I feel that the white lights "goes" better (obviously, considering they did not have electricity then )
yeah...my house is also pre electricity...that's why I ordered those window candle lights...I really lean towards that "classic' style..but my dh is more of a color guy....though he says he will defer to me...booo hoooo

Re: Christmas Lights...white or multicolor
DH changes the outside every year. He loves Christmas lights and sets them up with his 12 y/o son, who gets to help decide what to put out where.
This year all the strands are single colors. For example he has twisted red and green rope lights around the collumns of the porch and the bushes on the side of our house are in rainbow order Everytime I looked at it I see a gay pride flag Whatever makes them happy

Re: Christmas Lights...white or multicolor
I like the old school, big multi-color lights on the outside of the house. That's what we have up.
On the tree we also have multi-color lights.
What can I say, I just love the look of color so much more than white lights.

Re: Christmas Lights...white or multicolor
This is one of the great inner struggles I have right now.
I grew up with multi color lights (outside and inside) and I love it. In our apartments I always put up multicolor lights and loved it. However, I have always appreciated the quiet sophistication of clear light displays.
Last year, the first year in our house, I stood in the store for about 2 hours, staring at the Christmas lights trying to decide-"are we going to be multi color or clear?" It was an initial investment of $250 bucks, not a ton, but not a sum I wanted to repeat every year and one that would be added to over the years as our lights grow-so it was crucial to search my heart and come up with the right answer. DH was of no help because he didn't care and scoffed at my "dilemma".
I ended up going clear. Clear lights outside, clear lights in the windows and clear lights on the garland going up our banister and over our mantel.
We purchased an artificial tree (I struggled with that too ), and the tree came prelit with color AND clear lights AND a remote so you can put one or the other or BOTH on at any time. A remote control tree? It sickens me, but I love it. On a side note-I light a Yankee candle to get that authentic Christmas aroma going.
Okay, so I realize in the grand scheme of things light choice is of no consequence, but still, think it through-this is not something to go into willynilly.
Welcome to my very merry and artificial Christmas experience. At least the love is real

I prefer white but then DH found those big old fashioned colored bulbs and almost cried from happiness so our tree has those!

dh also scoffed at my dilemma...and called me someone we make fun of for being a PITA b/c of it
I am still unsure. I think I am leaning towards white though. with color using other decor.

I hear you sister-good luck.
I will add, I think I saw in another thread that you are doing the window candles? If so, my OCD would make me do clear lights on the outside to be consistent. It would bug me to have those up with multi color lights-it just doesn't look right to me. However, I also don't like when people mix multi and clear on differen parts of the house or add in those single color strands with multi or clear. AND I don't like different size bulbs outside. Consistency would win out for me and I would go for the clear.
I never knew I felt so strongly about Christmas lights.
