CIO not working... please help!

DS is in his crib crying right now. Chat Icon he's almost 14 months.

He was always easy to put to bed... he used to nurse to sleep, then he took a bottle and fell asleep, and eventually he took a bottle, but didn't fall asleep until i put him in the crib. he never cried at bedtime.

naps have always been tricky. so lately (probably for a couple weeks) we've been trying CIO for naps. sometimes he cries for 10 seconds, other times for much longer - up to 20 i think was the most. he also wakes up from his naps...... like today i put him down for his only nap at 330. he woke up at 400, 416, 430 and then 530.

i feel like making him CIO for naps made him also hate bedtime, because now he cries then too when bedtime used to be so eary and pleasant. i feel like i've ruined him! Chat Icon

please help! will he ever not cry to go to sleep... i'm afraid he's really hating sleep now becaues he knows we are just going to leave him there to cry.

DH wants to stop all CIO. At this point, i don't kow how to get him to go to sleep without it.

has this happened to anyone else?

I'm sorry. CIO did not work for us. My DS is 18 months. DH and I tried to get him to go to sleep on his own but I guess we spoiled him with all the rocking, singing of lullabies and walking around the house. He's almost 30 pounds now and will not go to sleep without doing what we've done since he was born.

When we tried CIO DS would get so sick from screaming that he would vomit. We couldn't take it anymore se we went back to our old routine. It probably takes us about 20 minutes to put him out. CIO does not work for all babies. I'm not sure how much longer we will do this before he sleeps on his own. I still think he's still young so I don't think it's that of a big deal for now.

Re: CIO not working... please help!

DS always went to sleep on my breast for the first year. Then he was still going to sleep on the bottle. We got him a crib music machine and he got used to it during the day outside of his crib. (That way he knew what button did what. ) After a week of him 'playing' it, we put it in his crib. It worked so well that we make sure to travel with it. He also soothes himself back to sleep if he happens to wake in the middle of the night. It was the best $20 we ever spent!
