circumcision
I have been thinking about this lately. My son was done...Against my gut instinct. My husband is not... In this pregnancy I don't want to. I dk how that will work with my son I have now. It is no longer a matter of hygiene and my hubby heard a radio show tonight that only 20% of the population does it and its the U.S. no where else... What does everyone else think> What are you going to do?

Re: circumcision
Only 20% get circumsized now?? That sounds so low...I feel like more people do it than not, but who knows?
Where you personally are concerned..maybe this is dumb reasoning on my part, but if one son were circumsized I couldn't choose not to for the other son...I would want them to be the same so questions aren't raised later on as to "Why him and not me" or vice versa if that makes sense.
I am definitely circumsizing my son, its just the way it is in our families and i haven't thought twice about it. Good luck to you!

Well, DH and I were arguing about this last week. Ultimately we decided not to get it done immediately, because after researching it it just did not seem like "the right thing" for us. We found that the Amercian Academy of Pediatrics no longer recommends the routine practice of circumcision. Also, there is no form of anesthetic available for newborns that alleviates the pain 100%. So basically, it would be putting the baby through surgery without proper pain relief. We decided to not circumsize him at birth, and to revisit the issue when he was 6 months. At that point they are old enough to be put under general anesthetic and have the proper pain relief. Do some research, yu should look at the AAP's policy on it, look up the different techiniques and pain relievers used, and make your decision from there/ Good luck with whatever you decide.

Re: circumcision
If we have a son we are going to do it only for the sheer reason of culture. My DH is jewish, even though we are rasing our children catholic, i let him have control of the decision.
If culture hadn't played a part, No our son would not be circumsized, I wouldn't see the need for it.
