Cleaning a coffee pot
What do you use to clean your coffee pot? We have the fine grinds in the space where the water goes - it's stuck to the bottom and could be wiped off if we could get our hand down there DH mentioned vinegar but how much? He wasn't sure and I have no clue.

Running vinegar through the coffee maker cleans the guts of the machine and you should do it every couple of months - coffee has certain oils in it that stick to the insides of the machine and make the coffee taste bad after a while.
As for cleaning the bottom of the pot - you can get one of those wire brush things... I can't think what they're called. Like this (I found on Amazon) but with a round head:

Re: Cleaning a coffee pot
Well I ran a vinegar and water mixture through the machine and it didn't work. Any other ideas? It's not the actual pot, but the coffee maker itself.

Re: Cleaning a coffee pot
maybe just try like 1 or 2 cups of vinegar by itself and see if that pushes it out and cleans it for you. GL!
ETA: are you using white vinegar?

Yes white vinegar. I'll try straight vinegar when I get home. I have apple cider and red wine vinegar too and will try those

Re: Cleaning a coffee pot
Can you take that part out of the coffee maker ?
Mine has the gold filter basket that sits in the cone shaped holder, and I can take the cone holder out to wash it.

No it doesn't come off. It's the part where you pour the water into that heats up. I was able to roll a thick wad of paper towels into a wand and it wiped some of it, but it's still coffee gunk gross

Re: Cleaning a coffee pot
ok, better picture. Next question : can you add a bit of water, swish it around and pour it out again, basically tipping your coffee maker upside down ? Maybe this will dislodge the gunk.

Re: Cleaning a coffee pot
I just did this this week
Wrap a papertowel on a butter knife, soak with vinegar and get in there and into the corners . then rinse with hot water --- repeat until clean. It took some time - but it worked.

It's basically stuck to the sides of the coffee maker. It's not so much gunk, but like a coffee slime omg this sounds so gross

Re: Cleaning a coffee pot
It's just the oils from the coffee. Builds up over time. I use baking soda on the inside of the coffee pot, but since this is the machine itself, do as I mentioned before (swishing, turning upside down) but try it with heated (warm) vinegar instead of water. I use the heated vinegar on my SS pans, takes away every last bit of film that builds up on the pans. Heated vinegar stinks, but works like a charm. It is a great natural cleaner.

Okay, I'll try the heated vinegar. I'll need to get a bigger bottle of the white vinegar though!
