Cleaning ears

I have a 3 month old and I was wondering how do you clean the ears? He is starting to get some wax build up and I have never cleaned them before because they were always clean. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Re: Cleaning ears

I don't stick anything in DS' ears. And he has a lot of wax. I use a washcloth.

Re: Cleaning ears

There are q-tips made for babies. They sell them at BRU.

Well good thing a q-tip is much smaller than an elbow Chat Icon Chat Icon

I use the safety q-tips. You can always have the doctor remove it too. They have a tool. They will bill your insurance company as "surgery" for it though!

Re: Cleaning ears

I just wipe around the inside with a wash cloth but never go inside and NEVER use a q tip - Ped said to stay away as you could push wash inside and cause problems. DD is 26mths and I have never used a q tip on her and she doesnt have dirty ears -well at least not to the naked eye.

Re: Cleaning ears

i have a 16 yr old daughter, who has had 4 sets of ear tubes starting when she was 11 months old.i have been seeing a ear specialist for 16 yrs,he said, never, never put q-tips in the ear,the ear cleans its self, use a cloth to get what you see, never try to get out what you cant..its very dangerous.

Re: Cleaning ears

Mineral Oil. Squirt it in, wait one hour and rinse out in bath. My ped. is always telling me to do this and I should do it more. I do once a week, she said at least twice.

Re: Cleaning ears

I use a washcloth in the bath and the babie q-tips afterwards. I so want to use a regular q-tip because he has some gunkies further in where we're not allowed...I would never though.
