Re: Cleaning/ sterilizing toys

yes- before use.
That'sa an awesome idea- is that sterile enough? I don't think my dishwasher detergent is "antibacterial" or anything. I'm assuming hot water works?

Re: Cleaning/ sterilizing toys

Just run a hot water cycle (no soap) if you don't have a sterilization cycle on your machine.

Re: Cleaning/ sterilizing toys

avoid chemicals..... hot water/steam is definitely best.

but make sure the toys can handle the heat....

if you think they'd melt, maybe just sponge it down with dishwashing liquid, rinse thoroughly, or clean with a bit of rubbing alcohol (it evaporates completely).

If you can't get a goat, try a cow. Very sterile.

Things that can stand the heat (pacifiers and such) go in the dishwasher sometimes, but often I wash by hand. His other toys either get washed with dish detergent and water or thrown in the washing machine. I really don't like to use chemicals on his toys.

You'll be surprised how sloppy you get with this quickly though--I was so good about cleaning everything right away initially. Today DS dropped his rattle on the floor, and I gave it back to him. It went right in his mouth.

Oh, yeah- that will be me- no doubt.
But I trust the floor at whatever store more than a Chinese manufacturing plant.

No, I understand that fear and would prefer germs on the floor to nasty chemicals. I literally haven't bought a new toy for DS lately because everything I see in the store is made in China. I just don't trust it at all.
