clogged tear duct surgery
IF your child needed the surgery how was your experience? Is there any recovery time? DS is almost 8 months. His eye is not getting any better and it gets so gross nearly daily despite massaging and warm water. I'm pretty sure we'll end up needing the surgery but i'm so nervous. At what age did you do it? Do you have a peds ophthalmologist u can recommend in nassau? I'll call my peds tomorrow for a rec. They were going to refer me at 10 months but i'd like to go sooner to talk to them. It looks infected right now and I rather see a specialist. TIA!
ETA- I know it can get better and they say u generally wait until 12 months but I'm already thinking about it. His eyelashes get stuck together a lot

Re: clogged tear duct surgery
Dr. Barry Pinchoff Pediatric Ophthalmology 1000 Northern Blvd Suite 190W Great Neck, NY 11021
DD had tear duct surgery right before her 1st birthday. Dr. Pinchoff did the surgery - he is an amazing and wonderful doctor. I highly recommend him. The surgery was super quick and she was back to herself the next day. The surgery was literally 20 minutes - it was much harder on me than her. She was very groggy all day and slept alot but they warned me about this due to the anesthesia. They just wanted me to make sure she drank enough throughout the day and we started back with food slowly. If you have other questions feel free to ask. Good Luck!!!
eta- we couldnt put anything up her nose or let her face go under water - pool or bath - for a few days

Dr. Kodsi 516-470-2020
Office is in Manhasset and she does surgery in Cohen's at LIJ.
She is FANTASTIC!!
They usually won't do the surgery until they are 1. DD had hers 1 week after her birthday. It literally took less than 5 minutes. She was her normal self within minutes of waking up. We had to put drops in for a few days (I think) and a f/u appt. like a week or so later and that was it.
Hardest part was holding her down for the IV and then holding her until she fell asleep. Other than that it really was a breeze.
Her eye was 100% from that day forward and we had gross issues with it from 2 weeks old.

Same for us except my son was in the small percentage that needed a second surgery. The first one helped a lot. The second one cleared it totally. I liked that dr. Pinchoff wasn't quick to recommend the surgery and first did drops and stuff like that. Ds had his 1st surgery at about 1.5 years and his second right before his 3 rd bday

Re: clogged tear duct surgery
8 months is still early to be thinking of the surgery. We were in the same boat at 9 months and miraculously right before our appointment about surgery around 11.5 months it cleared up on its own.
