Clomid? HSG? IUI?
I may be jumping the gun, but this was my first CLOMID cycle with my RE. I did do another cycle with my regular OBGYN. After I ovulated we used time intercourse. Then, I went back and my progesterone level was an 8.8. BUT the thing is I did not start taking the progesterone until 9 dpo.
Could this effect the implantation? If I take it earlier, would I have a better chance?
Did your RE do an HSG first before an IUI?
I am waiting for my AF. I got a negative beta,..and now I have stopped the progesterone. Just wanted to hear anyone's experiences/thoughts.

Re: Clomid? HSG? IUI?
I don't know enough about progesterone to comment on that.
This is my first cycle of protocol with the RE.
Before beginning any treatment we were both sent for blookwork, and I had and HSG and DH had a SA. Our dx is unexplained IF since on paper we look fine.
Now that everything has come back with good results, I went for a "clomid check" today on CD 3.
I am going to take clomid for the next 5 days, and see my RE for another check up on CD 10.
To be honest, I think I would be leery to have any treatment until they had checked everything out first. Personally I think I would wait on the IUI until you've had the HSG first.

Re: Clomid? HSG? IUI?
my RE waited until this 2nd failed IUI to suggest the HSG. he said they don't do it right away because it's painful they started with a saline sono to check the uterus for abnormalities, but that test won't reveal a blocked tube. but he just gave me the script yesterday. at what point they prescribe the HSG might depend on the doctor.
as far as the progesterone, they have always brought me in on 7dpiui to check those levels. i can't say though about the effect on implantation--not sure.

Re: Clomid? HSG? IUI?
my RE had me do the HSG before I did any type of protocol. At first I thought it was too early to do that, but then some of the wonderful ladies on here made a really good point that if you have blockages, the treatments won't work so you might as well find out upfront if there is anything going on.

Re: Clomid? HSG? IUI?
Thank you ladies! My doctor did say it was painful. He did not want to put me through that right away...but I am thinking I can deal with it...if it means that I can get a clear tube dx or know that is the problem.

I had one and it wasnt painful. Just AF cramps for like 20 seconds and that was with a blockage. Even if it was a little more cramps, it would be worth it to know. That way you don't waste time on IUI that might not work since the egg can't get out of the tube if it s blocked.
I'm not sure about the progesterone part.
Good Luck!

it's honestly not that bad of a procedure - some women (myself included) experience about 30 sec to a minute of intense discomfort. Some women feel mild cramping. If you take advil beforehand you should be fine. In the overall scheme of things we do, its not that bad!
i would talk to your RE and ask again about getting it done. It really doesn't make sense to do iui's without it since you'll just be wasting time if there is a blockage. Has your DH done an SA as well?
good luck!

Re: Clomid? HSG? IUI?
I have never had an HSG so I'm no help there.... I also typically start progesterone at 1dpo. I"m sure if your dr had you start later, there was a reason though.

Re: Clomid? HSG? IUI?
Hi. Yes, I had an hsg as part of my initial testing along with the million other things they did. They do this as others mentioned to make sure your tubes are not blocked, otherwise there'd be no point to the IUI.
I have never been on progesterone, but the way I understand it is that is has nothing to do with implantation. It's once you get pregnant helping you keep the pregnancy. If your progesterone level drops too low you can miscarry.
Hope this helps. GL!
