not sure how you are doing it, but if youre getting a big one, I would probably divide it up...like if it's $50, I'd get two $25 and so forth so if it's lost it won't be so

Does he drink it black? If not then I would get the GC because then you need to figure out where he will keep his milk and sugar, also clean his mug.

Yes, and make sure he registers the gift cards on DD.com too. That way he can deactivate the card if he loses it (and add more money to it when he uses it all up).
