Cold meds for toddlers?

DD has her first real cold at almost 2 years old.

She has been super congested (ive done the saline, humidifier, etc etc)

and she has a dry cough that is keeping her up at night.

Anything I can give her or do for her other than tylenol?

She is 22 months and over 30lbs.

Benadryl. It helps ds, but can make him a bit more hyper then usual. Steam baths and showers help loosen the funk.

Interesting why the bottom of her feet? I am using Vicks now too but i put it on his chest and under his nose.

After much searching, DH found a No name brand Cough and congestion medicine. We have been giivng him that. He has the same symptoms you mentioned.

I was thinking that too. I did the feet when he was around 8 months old, but at 2 the chest should be fine.
I used Children's Benadryl Cold med and it helped

Re: Cold meds for toddlers?

AJ had a nasty cold a few weeks ago.

Nose, chest, cough ick

So we had a combo
Honey Elixir - Little Remedies
Kids Relief - Cough & Cold
Claritin

The honey worked best for cutting the cough, the cough & cold seemed to lessen the triggers for the cough and also acted like mucinex and the Claritin kept her decongested as well as reduce her runny nose.

It lasted just a week.

Link to my thread of AJ's cold and the OTC stuff we used

I would also steam up the bathroom....bring in some toys and sit with her for a little while. It should help with the congestion. hope DD feels better soon...its the WORST when they are sick :(

Good to know. I never knew you can put it on the feet for it to work as well.

I just use Zyrtec it doesn't help much with the cough but it makes him sleepy so the cough doesn't wake him much.

Re: Cold meds for toddlers?

Thanks, Yea we do not use them the same day because the claritin is a 24 hour medication... so usually no need for anything at nighttime. Just use Benadryl at night if she's had nothing during the day. :)
