Cold water challenge on Facebook
If you got "nominated" by a friend to do one of these did you or would you? If you didn't or wouldn't, did you/would you make a donation to the charity involved?

Re: Cold water challenge on Facebook
I think it is either you dump a bucket of ice cold water on your head or make a donation to an animal shelter in California. It was on the today show last week. Then you need to nominate three people to do the challenge.

No one's forcing or guilting anyone into making a donation. It's just all in good fun and and if some charities get some help from it then that's an added bonus.

Agreed. If someone challenged me 1) I wouldn't do it 2) I wouldn't pass it on and 3) I wouldn't donate money to the cause because I bowed out of the challenge. I donate to the charities I want to on my own, without challenges on social media.

I think the poster was referring to the original poster. It sounds like OP was asking if people would donate money if they opted out of/didn't want to do the challenge -- which IMO sounds like you felt guilty for not participating.

The challenge basically says that you dump ice water over your head within the next 24 hours or make a $100 donation to a specified charity. If you do it, you then challenge others to do the same.

Thanks for the explanation if nominated I wouldn't do it, sounds stupid to me

Re: Cold water challenge on Facebook
I might do it...if I were nominate on a day like today, where it was hot as donkey balls.
Or, depending on the charity, I may donate. Not because I feel like I'm obligated to...but when friends are involved with different organizations, I usually throw in a bit of a donation. Asking for $100 is ridiculous though. That part turns me off.
That said, I only saw this come up once in my feed and it was not detailed...I just thought that it was some chick dumping water on herself for attention.

Yes.
If I didn't want to participate, I wouldn't respond. As is the case with most things that I'm not interested in on FB.

Re: Cold water challenge on Facebook
I would be more likely to give money if someone else were going to dump cold water over their own head. Kind of like donating when someone runs a marathon. I would completely ignore a request for me to donate or dump cold water over my own head. That's kind of weird to me.

It makes it sound like people would rather dump water on their head then donate money to a good cause...
I would just donate money

Re: Cold water challenge on Facebook
Heck no!
I wouldn't do it & I wouldn't donate money. I don't make $100 donations at a time & when I do donate, an animal charity out of state that I know nothing about is low on the list.

A bunch of DH's Fire Dpt friends were doing it back in April (they were all jumping into freezing cold, just opened pools).
I'm pretty sure the donation was only $50 and they all donated anyhow

Yes same with my father in laws fire dept. To accept the challenge it was donate $50.00 and dump cold water on their head, Jump in the cold pool. or take a bath in ICE. If you did not want to do the challenge it was donate $100.00. Anyway there cause was to donate to the Victims Burn Unit. I thought it was a great way for them to raise money for a good cause.

It was also done in my husbands FD circle. I believe the idea is that if you accept the challenge the person who called you out donates, if you don't you are supposed to donate. The way it worked with my DH was he picked a charity and mentioned in the video. I think its a cute idea and he called out people he knows closely all of which participated.

Cold water challenge on Facebook
So many party poopers.
This just goes to show how all these things end up like the game telephone. When it got to me this is how it went: If you accepted the challenge you would make a $10 donation to any charity of your choice. If you declined the challenge you were asked to make a $100 donation to the charity that the person who challenged you chose. Yes $100 is a lot but it was to encourage people to do the challenge and therefore get more people involved. It was just a fun little thing going around FB but it's nice to see that so many people get their panties in a bunch over things like this.

I don't think anyone is getting their panties in a bunch... why aren't people allowed to state their feelings?
