So, Do You Boil Water Using Hot or Cold Water?
The old wives tale says to boil water using "cold" bc it "boils" faster, but science says hot water obviously will boil faster....so what do you fill up your pots with to cook, Hot or Cold???

Re: So, Do You Boil Water Using Hot or Cold Water?
I put the water on hot to fill a pot or kettle, but I'm too impatient to wait for it to run long enough to actually GET hot (our sink takes a minute to warm up), so it's usually lukewarm.

Cold. I read somewhere that hot tap water contains impurities that leach through the hot water tanks.

Cold, because I read that more minerals and pollutants linger in warm and hot tap water.

When boiling water, I use hot water...but when freezing water I also use hot water. I worked at a bakery and I was told that the water would freeze faster if it was hot. I don't know if it is true, I just went with it.

Yeah, you're probably right. But ever since I read not to consume it or cook with it, I don't. Just one of those things.

Re: So, Do You Boil Water Using Hot or Cold Water?
I was always told that it's better to use cold water because it has less impurities but if I'm lazy and/or only need a small amount of water I start with boiling water from our instanthot

Thanks for the refresher! I knew I had a good reason for using cold water, I just couldn't remember it exactly!

Always cold because of the impurities in hot.

Cold...for no reason other than the fact that I'm too impatient to wait for the hot water when it's going to boiled eventually anyway.

Re: So, Do You Boil Water Using Hot or Cold Water?
I don't believe anything about warm water having germies, impurities, anything compared to cold.
It all lives in the same pipes, comes out the same pipes and inevitably is going down the same pipe.
Science says warm water boils faster but -- regardless -- it's taking a few minutes so -- I use whatever's coming out of the faucet first.

Re: So, Do You Boil Water Using Hot or Cold Water?
Cold because of something I read about impurities in the hot water heater.
I use an electric tea kettle, so it boils fast.

Yes, this! From what I have heard, hot water is more likely to carry impurities. I always boil cold water.
