I'm confused...Does NYC own the LIRR? Why does paying the LIRRcompare to the new tax? I get that people are upset that they are already paying, but you are paying for the ride into the city. If hte city is responsible for paying for the statiosn that the train uses...then I don't see the big deal.
My point was that it is part of the MTA and they are a city agency - an agency who lied, cooked the books and ripped off it's customers in order to get millions of $$ in surplus cash, all at our expense. Now the city wants to hit us again. And we arent going to see dime one of that $$$ the essentially stole from us.
The LIRR is actually run by the state not the city.

OK I am not disagreeing about who runs the LIRR or the MTA. I was using it as an example to show that commuters already pay a sh*t load of $$$ to commute.

I pay
$375/month for LIRR - $4500/yr and $100/mo for subway - 1200 yr
Total of $5700/year
Janice, according to what you pay for bus, you pay about $2132/year

I don't care if it's a penny per paycheck, no one is taking any of my hard earned money if I don't have a say as to how much and where is goes.
You DO HAVE SAY. Its called... "work in the county you live in".
Theres no way I can make the money I make in NYC on LI.
The company I work for is in NYC and not Suffolk. So many professional positions are higher paid in NYC than on LI.

If you cross a state line to work you get 100% of that state's taxes back. Why should Suburban commuters be the ones to fix an NYC deficit?
Tell you what... since you feel this way.... if you ever pass out in the middle of 5th avenue in Manhattan... we will hold off on FDNY EMT's giving you medical attention.
We will simply wait for a Suffolk County Hospital EMT to come into Manhattan to render service since those are the salaries you are paying taxes on.
And if that's the case then no tourists or diplomats should receive any medical attention either.
