I wish I had so much free time to spend reporting posts!

Chat Icon

I always have to laugh when I see someone post this response on one of these threads. (I'm not laughing at YOU per se, just that this exact sentence always comes up.)

It takes all of 1 second to report a post. It's not a long process. It's not like someone is taking 2 hours out of their day to report a post. KWIM?

but who cares? i think thats the point. i have never once thought about reporting a post for it being "on the wrong board"

Well when someone goes to do a search and its not posted on the correct board.....they cant find it...

And then every one says ' WE NEED MORE BOARDS!"

Why??? People dont feel the need to use the ones that are already here!!

I have reported a post before because I thought maybe it might get traffic on another board. Like someone asking a question about mortgages or window treatments on FHF would likely get the best answer on the Home board, and I will report that and it gets moved. Particularly if it is someone who is a new poster and may not have looked other boards.

i get that. i think most people post "questionable" posts on FHF because it gets the most traffic without a doubt. moving something from FHF to health is the kiss of death, very little traffic over there.

not that the search function works anyway Chat Icon

but ... that is why you have to keep it broad! just a search "phrase" and a date. much better results that way Chat Icon

I've reported posts for similar reasons. If it's very topic-specific, it will get lost on page 3 within a few hours in FHF, when it really should be on Pets or Home, etc, where it will get responded to by people who frequent those boards.

Re: Confused.........about moving posts

Also, TPTB have commented several times that in order to keep this board free, they rely on businesses sponsoring particular boards. If they keep appropriate posts in appropriate boards, they keep traffic to areas that are being sponsored. If absolutely nobody posted in the other boards, and only on FHF, TPTB would lose sponsors and money.

I have no problem with letting people run a business how they need to, especially if there's basically no impact on me (I've had quite a few posts moved), and their policy keeps this free.

1) TPTB can do whatever they wish, whether unfair or fair, as history has shown. As the creators of LIF, they can do whatever they want.
2) I only hate it when someone begs in the subject line "please don't move" and it gets moved. Just mean spirited.
3) xposting takes just a teensy bit longer to do, and ensues a post not getting moved.

EVeRY topic on here has been beaten to death. Veterans need to accept that and either let it go, or move on. iIf you've seen it all, done it all, then maybe you ( universal you) need a change. Like a new message board to haunt and pick at.

Yes - people report them.

Don't know why we're calling out the tampon thread though. Kinda sounds like "why is the tampon thread still here, but not mine???" Chat Icon

Nope. That's not what I am saying at all. I keep using that reference because it is the one that sticks out in my head. There is also the Gary Carter post, prob should be on the celeb board, etc. The tampon post sticks out because it is just obvious it belongs on health or beauty, but it has remained. That's all. And it confuses me how this whole works. I mean I could care less if it stays or not. My point is that i feel that there are some posts that are moved, almost like at random and I don't understand how that gets decided.

. That sounds time consuming. people desire new and updated information and opinions. Plus the OP had a valid question.

It seems to pretty much boil down to whether someone reported it or not.

TPTB do NOT troll the board looking to move posts. The only time they move someone is if something reports it. So someone saw your post and decided to report it and it got moved.

I don't think it's a case that only TPTB move posts of people they like, because I know they love me and I have had posts moved. Chat Icon

It comes down to if someone either
a)just feels like reporting posts for whatever reason (just think topic should be moved, is having a bad day, likes to be a narc)

b)or just doesn't like the poster and wants to be a d*ck

Such is the flow of LIF and this topic comes up alllllll the time.

So, how many people have to report s post before it is moved? One person? Group of people?

Not to be rude, but I really don't care if it has been beat to death. I am not looking for drama, I just want to understand how it works. If I post an issue that i have and I feel it is a "family helping family" post, I think it should remain. And I think that like a previous poster said at the top, if she feels it belongs somewhere else, she will say " you know, you might get better answers on so and so board......" and I might think about it and think she is right or not. But I think I should have the right to determine where I want my question asked and answered. I am not a moron lol I can figure out where things belong. Why do people have to report posts? If you feel it would be better answered somewhere else, put that in a reply this way the person knows. Maybe that is a better way to do it.

And again, not to be rude, but there is a title at the top of the post. You have every right not to read it if you feel it has been beaten to death.

I can't figure it out either!

What I have figured out is that Families Helping Families should be renamed The Random and Useless Sh!t Board!

It used to bother me but now I just let it go and xpost back to the FHF board.

Nobody FREQUENTS those boards...Chat Icon When I post there, I plan to wait at least a day before getting a response. Not that that's bad, i usually do get goid responses, but let's be realistic! Chat Icon

There are certain boards where posts go to die. I never understood cross posting because it defeats the purpose. And if more boards create more revenue and it's not really about people coming here to find help, support and information than what good is this site? There needs to be a line drawn. What's important and what's not.

Re: Confused.........about moving posts

So I have reported a post because a: I felt it belonged somewhere else, and b: because i feel lots of my posts have been getting moved lately, so i wanted to see what would happen if I reported a post that obviously belongs somewhere else, and guess what? NOTHING HAPPENED!! So this is why I am confused with the process.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon This is my point. If I am looking for true help (which I was ) why move my post. I put it where I put it for a reason. If I wanted it in health, I would have posted it there! And if someone feels it belongs somewhere else, don't secretly report it like we are in high school, instead be an adult and tell me on my thread. That's all, easy as that.

But often, if someone says in the thread that it should go on another board, that comment gets ignored, or responded to with "I put it on FHF for a reason" or "I put it here so it gets more traffic", so it's not as easy as that.
