Constipation question
My little girl is constipated. I am not sure if it is from all of the table food she is eating or from the switch we made to the next step formula. She struggles to go and when she does, it is a tiny little marble (sorry TMI)
What works the best for constipation? Mikayla has really never had this so I am not sure what to use.
TIA

I will not be able to speak to anyone now at 4:30 on a friday. I am sure some BTDT mommies have a suggestion for me.

Re: Constipation question
Try prunes. I give my daughter baby food prunes every day for constipation. Also if she is drinking juice, pear juice or apple juice should help. Sometimes they just need some more liquid in their systems.
Also, if she is that uncomfortable my ped told us to use the baby laxiatives from little tummys (i think it's prune extract).
Good luck.

Re: Constipation question
Ped recoomended an 1oz of pear juice in DS bottle for constipation. Then if that does not work he said go to Prune juice, but try the pear juice first becasue he said prune juice is very strong and can cause stomach cramping.
Hope your little one feels better soon.

Re: Constipation question
Hi I have the same q but DD is only 6 months & we just started cereal 2 wks ago. The rice was fine & then she was on oatmeal for 5 days, no problem, but since yesterday she hasn't gone. She's making some stinky gas though.
Any other remedies?
Thanks (don't mean to hijack)

Re: Constipation question
My ped. also says to give pear juice. I have had to do it twice, and it has worked like a charm both times.

Re: Constipation question
JoOhn was like when he was like 6 months and older. My PED said to give them prune juice and I fed him prunes from the container..stage 1 and 2. Baryye cereal is also good to have. And other juices. But the prune stuff really worked for him.

Re: Constipation question
Prunes worked well for us too. There were a few occasions when I had to use the thermometer to stimulate things a little

Re: Constipation question
We had this problem the other day and the ped. recommended a little prune juice in with her cereal. If that doesn't work, try the thermometer trick (if she will let you).

Re: Constipation question
I just spoke to my ped & they said no need to worry until it gets to 4 days or more. They suggested any of the "p" fruits...pears, prunes, peaches, liquids (water), glycerine suppository or the rectal thermometer. She said for DD its her system getting used to passing a solid bowel movement (up to now its been very soft breastmilk movements). We've been kicking her feet too.
I just hate seeing her in discomfort

Re: Constipation question
my dd is younger then yours, but our ped suggested water. it seems to help her and she only takes a few sips from the bottle.

Re: Constipation question
I always gave (and still do) her pear juice. I had to run out on New Years Eve at 8pm to Stop and Shop because I needed pear juice. The only brand out there is Gerber. I am always looking for Beechnut or anyother brand and can't find any.

Re: Constipation question
DS went through this and still suffers with it sometimes... I took him to a pediatric gastro and they told me Kondrumyl(sp?) oil...It's avail at any pharmacy. It's in a white bottle and is gentle and tasteless. You can mix a teaspoon of it in their milk/formula and they never even know it's there!
Worked wonders for my son. That and slightly diluted prune juice.
