Convertible Car Seat VS Booster

MY DS is going to be 3y/o next month. He has been in a convertible car seat since about 12 months old. While he still fits in it, his legs need more room (I have to put the front seat up all the way) his seat has a higher bottom and that makes his legs come out more. Do you think that he is ready for a booster (I notice that there bottoms at not as high)?

What booster do you recommend?

Re: Convertible Car Seat VS Booster

I have my girls in the Graco Nautilus 3 in 1...they are both still in the 5 point harness and will be indefinitely. I am going to keep them in it until they reach the seat's limits. They are much more comfortable in it than they were in the traditional convertible seat.

I think DC needs to be at least 4 years old and 40 lbs before you can even consider using a booster. You can get a convertible seat that later changes into a booster though (i.e. Graco Nautilus).

My.DS is 3 but extremely tall tor his age. We are getting him the Britax frontier 85 SICT. its a 5 point harness booster that can be used prior to 40lbs.

IMO 3yo is too young for a belt positioning booster. The MINIMUM recommendation is 4 years AND 40 pounds. A smaller profile seat with harnesses would be what to look for. Most harness systems work up to 65 pounds, and safety wise it is best to keep them in a harness system for as long as possible.

3 is far too young for a booster! Check out some crash test videos on YouTube to see how much safer 5 point harnesses are. My 5 year old and 6.5 year old are still in 5 point harnesses. They both use the Graco Nautilus 3-1's

6.5 yo DD is still in a conv seat, and will be for a while still. I'm never in a rush to move DC to a less safe seat/position/etc.
