It all depends on where the line is from you house. If you don't have one near you it can be really expensive to bring the line to your house.

I had gas in my house already. I paid around I think $4500 I replaced the burner and added a second zone.

Re: converting to gas

We did it last year. It cost about $6k. I don't live on LI but our contractor gave us 3 options, price wise. We went with the most expensive on DH's suggestion because it was the most efficient. (Cheapest was $4,500).

NYSEG ran the line for us, 100 feet were free which got it to the house then the contractor took it from there.

I would strongly suggest checking with your town regarding permits and inspections and whoever is going to provide the gas. We had the line run in mid-November last year, but we got held up because my town needed to send an inspector and then NYSEG also needed to come. In the meantime it got to be the holidays and we ran out of heating oil Chat Icon Chat Icon. But as I said, I am not on LI but you should find out what role your town/village will have.

We did it about 2 years ago. Filed the application with National Grid. Then they came and ran the gas line from the street to the house, with n charge. (there was already gas on our street - if not, it would be a much bigger job to get a gas line to street). Then our contractor came and installed the new burner and water heater. The contractor took care of contacting the town for the necessary permits. Within a few hours of the contractor being done, the town inspector came and the system was turned on. The installation part was all done in one day. Total cost was about $6-7K

We did this in September. I don't know where you're located, but I was quoted higher than most of what's mentioned above.

We ended up going with a friend of a friend who did the conversion and it was $6k. It took him 2 days. If we went with anyone else, the lowest quote I got was $7,500.
