Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

honestly, I would be flattered, it showed she loved your wedding enough that it became something she wanted...

Its still a little creepy with the wording, but I would go, enjoy yourself, and dont mention it. If there are some of the same guests, they may remember, they may not remember, but it was your wedding first.

I would also be pretty flattered. It would make me feel like my wedding left a great impression on them!

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

i think there is a certain line where it becomes kinda on the creepy side...

the invite wording, i mean there are lots of people that probably use the same wording...

even the dress and favors those are all things that i think if you love it you love it...

if her dance is the same, father daughter, mother son, cake cutting, flowers, etc are all the same then id be worried

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

i had someone copy my invitation.... i mean serious copy. she asked who i used. i figured she would just be using the same person. umm... she used the same everything pretty much. even the wording.

the only differences were the colors and she didn't do the extras - i had crystals, a ribbon, and nicer paper. All else was THE SAME!! it was creepy to open the invite.

that being said, i went to her wedding... and that's pretty much where it ended.

i was taken aback with the invitation... so i can only imagine how you must feel with the dress being the same and other aspects.

i probably would be creeped out by it...but she must have really loved what you did. if anything i'd be more embarrassed for her.

i say go and tell her how much you love her dress and how familiar it looks!! Chat Icon

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

we have had people ask if i minded if they could do a few things I did and I honestly don't mind. I even had a friend who got married 2 months after DH and I change her invite paper to the same as mine because she had to have it.

I feel like your wedding was first so it don't matter you know?

I have a family member who plans on using the same photo vendor but thats about it (so far). Yeah, what your describing sounds a little weird. Almost kinda like she has no imagination or originality. To me a wedding should scream the couples personality and should include lots of those details, not someone elses.

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

i think this kind of transcends into the creepy side. if she says something to you after the wedding i would say something funny like i know i did it a mine or something but i wouldn't say anything to her at the wedding if she mentions it

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

I'm not a newlywed yet but I saw this topic and I had to post!! I'm getting married this September and a good friend of mine is getting married a month before me. I booked a lot of things early because we have a popular date and she literally did everything I did...

-went to the bridal salon I went to and purchased a gown from the same designer as mine.
-booked the rh literally down the block from mine.
-booked my dj.
-booked my photographer.
-booked my florist.

At first I was like 'what the....??' but now I look at is as her liking my opinion on things and I'm glad I was able to help, even if I did all the work lol. We don't have friends or family in common so no one from her wedding will be at mine besides me and fh.

I know someone getting married this year and asked to look at my book and asked all kinds of questions. She tried to get my hall (they were booked on the day she wanted), got a similar dress...
I take this as a sincere form of flattery. There are some things I wish I had did differently so I was kinda pleasantly surprised lol

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

I know someone like this....she was a guest at my wedding. She isnt a friend of mine but now that she is engaged to DH's friend she is part of our "group". Anyway, I am hearing from the grape vine that she is going OUT OF HER WAY to copy just about everything I did for my wedding. Honestly, I could care less b/c as a friend pointed out everyone is going to say weren't we JUST at this wedding last summer???? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
I also look at it as a form of flattery BUT she is starting to take it too far in the manner that she is now copying whatever I do IRL. DH & i just got a dog....she got a puppy 2 days later. She is always trying to put me down and be beyond passive aggressive w/me and a few of the other ladies.
Its pathetic and very sad really.

Whoa that certainly gets a lil creepy! Id be ******, but I dont know if it would keep me from the reception...depends how close you are with your imitator.

Luckily enough this did not happen to me, I made sure to do eveything as outside the box as i can.

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

This happened between 2 friends of mine 1 was getting married in August and the other July. The one in Aug would show the one in July things in magazines that she was getting and the the one in July would get the same ones. It was a shame because it was all the Aug girls ideas and the one in July had it first.

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

I was in a similar situation.. I got married three years ago and my got married this past year.. and she told me right after my wedding that if she is to ever get married she would copy my wedding.. she ended up being one of my best friends throughout these past few years and although I was a bit peeved when I saw the invite (she used the same lines for the pre and post wedding invites.. same.. tit for tat).

A mutual friend was more pizzed than I was.. but as annoyed as I was, I was flattered, she did acknowledge me and she imitated my wedding.. not my marriage, so I'm ok with that. Everyone gets their 'tada' and inspiration from somewhere so its ok. Chat Icon

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

It's a little bit creepy but until you go to the actual wedding as a PP said to see if she picks things like the same music, cake, colors, etc etc then I'd probably let it go.

I looooved on LIW when future brides would ask me questions and then I'd see them with things/ideas that I did b/c honestly I was inspired by other websites and other brides.

Re: Copycat wedding planning- has this happened to you?

i am SO not a newlywed anymore...boooO! Chat Icon but im posting! hahaha!

i think if the imitation is acknowledged its okay - but if its not than its really annoying...i will be the first to say that i get ideas from other people - whether its my wedding, house, haircolor, etc. but i always give credit to the originator and say i got the idea from xyz...i come up with my own ideas too but certain things yeah, i like it i copy it...and when people do the same to me i feel flattered - as long as i get the credit for it....

but copying down to the dress is a little creepy! its one thing to copy shoes, a hairstyle, use the same vendor, but down to the dress, that is nuts!
