I've been through Flushing plenty of times. I used to work at Citifield.

You're making an incredibly general and racist statement about a place being dirty and I ask you, who lives there? What is their nationality and/or ethnicity?

What makes what she said racist? I don't think she mentioned race in any PP. Somebody can't say how dirty a particular neighborhood is now?

Because she started talking about “the people” and everyone knows it predominantly Asians. Her first comment sounded snobby and borderline racists, whether she meant it or not the second response sounded straight up racist. Also flushing is bigger than the transportation hub so maybe instead of saying flushing she should of said I hate that area of where the terminal is. She generalized all of flushing.

She said: "The people that spit and blow their noses onto the sidewalk." That is NOT RACIST. People who spit or blow their noses on the sidewalk are disgusting no matter what their ethnicity is. She didn't say "Those people blow their noses on the street" implying that all Chinese people blow their noses on the street. It's a subtle difference but it is a very different implication.

Also she is saying she won't take the bus which goes all through flushing, not just the terminal. Before you get your panties in a bunch assuming she's a member of the Klan maybe actually read what she wrote. And again, sounds like she has spent a decent amount of time in Flushing. I am wondering when the last time you have even been to Flushing for you to contradict her statements...

And, finally it's she "should have" said not "should of" said. Sorry just a pet peeve of mine.

Should of should of ... idgaf about your pet peeve. Just shows you don’t have any real talking points so you have to be petty lol.

My panties aren’t in a bunch, I don’t give two shits if she is racists or not. I don’t even know if the poster is white so not sure about your KKK reference. I am pointing out how it came across. She can choose to reflect on it or not. Doesn’t matter to me, my day will continue to go on business as usual.

ETA: I’m from queens so it’s really none of your business my credentials on this matter. Ask the poster saying these comments, when was the last time she’s been there.

So i just went back and read her comment because i didn't read it that in throughly at first.
Where does she mention the "people" of that area? I don't see any mention of the people...

"I live in Northeastern Queens and commute by railroad and express bus. This may come out the wrong way, but I refuse to take the 7 subway line because it goes thru Flushing. I hate Flushing anyway because it is so crowded and so dirty."

When she said “the people that spit..” doesn’t sound right when it’s predominantly Asian. That’s my opinion on how it sounded. Others took it that way so as a poster I would take a second to think about it before saying something like that to actual people in real life. Also whenever you start something with “this may sound wrong or I hope this doesn’t offend you” means you are going to sound wrong or offend someone. And I’m guilty of doing this to. So it’s not like the poster didn’t know.

Re: Coronavirus fear and worry?

I am planning my son's bar mitzvah for this year and just went dress shopping for me. The designer said that due to the Corona virus they will not be able to get stock in time for May/June. I ordered the one that was in stock now from the manufacturer because they said their china manufacturer is shut down and they don't know when they will be able to reopen.

I had not really thought about the virus beyond washing my hands, but I do that for flu prevention too. I went to the NJ version of Chinatown last week. I still eat Chinese food, and will continue to do so. My daughter's best friend is Chinese, and we celebrated new years with them. I will continue to do so.

Oh come on! If you are not familiar with the area how would you know what the demographics are?

People in all neighborhoods spit. You can't use that as an example of it being a racist comment. I have driven through neighborhoods where I have no idea who the majority of people are and have said its dirty. That makes me racist?

about 1/4 of the kids in our school are Chinese and this is something they as parents are raising at the pick up area when we talk. So I know from them this is a fear.

Coronavirus fear and worry?

Downtown Flushing is filthy- the smell is rancid. Guess where else is predominantly Asian? Bayside, Auburndale, Little Neck...all very clean. So, at least for me, has nothing to do with race, at all. I have seen my fair share of gross white neighborhoods too. I don't care what race you are- take pride in where you live. EVERYTHING is racist now. As a matter of fact, there are a few Asian families on my block who refuse to go into downtown Flushing because they say it is disgusting.

Re: Coronavirus fear and worry?

I lived in downtown Flushing for 5 years. I commuted on the 7 line. The smells I'd walk past were just awful - like raw sewage. It was very dirty and so, so crowded. I'd get on the 7 train during rush hour (on it's very first stop) and wouldn't even bother trying to vie for a seat as it was fruitless 90% of the time. So, yes, she speaks the truth. May not be "PC" but we cannot live in a society that sugarcoats the truth for fear of offending or being "racist." People are so quick to throw out labels. Chat Icon

So people really think that the beef and broccoli and wonton soup they order from their local Chinese restaurant is contaminated with this virus?
Or is it the people preparing it that they are scared of?

Yes, people think that. And they also think they will get it from the nail salon. I've seen this posted on social media. People really are idiots

This site was a place to chat, to encourage, to congratulate, to ask for recommendations, to recommend, to ask for help, for prayers and good wishes.
But it has become a place of nastiness and holier-than-thou attitudes, some reading a whole lot more into what was written and then stirring up the shitpot.

I'm done.
I don't need this in my life.

I can. I posted in the beginning of March about traveling to LI for an event - a bridal shower. It was after the first cases in NY were found. People all rolled their eyes at me on my post and I did go to LI. I sanitized every single thing while I was done there. I made my son wash his hand nonstop when we went out to a restaurant. Now I see that my nutty behavior was actually sensible. 6 days later all schools in the state were closed.

Haha I was told I was paranoid and needed therapy for buying extra things in case we ever locked down for 2 weeks.

Looking back, I'm glad I did what I did.

My husband told me I was overbuying. Well I had twins and had a hard time getting formula, diapers and wipes. Now he tells me he is glad I bought because he ordered 4 items and the store would only send him one.

I was in Target right at the start of this and saw people with carts full of toilet paper. I (rightly) started to worry that there would be a shortage, so I grabbed a few packs. My husband totally made fun of me and said that I was buying into the hysteria and "part of the problem". He recently admitted that he wished that he would have listened and we would have bought more.

But its kind of true. If everyone didn't decide toilet paper was the thing to hoard back then, we wouldn't have a shortage right now. One person panic buys something and others see them doing it and feel now THEY have to buy even more of it because others are doing it and causing shortage and so on and so on and it's becomes a vicious cycle that screws up the supply chain artificially.
If everyone had just bought as normal there wouldn't be an issue right now.

I'm not concerned about getting this. I know statistically there is a 98% recovery rate in NYC right now. I also think this will end up like the common cold, wherein most people end up with it at some point. I've been taking the same precautions I always have prior to March.
