I wonder if all the people on this thread who said they weren't concerned at all are concerned now?
I'm not concerned about getting this. I know statistically there is a 98% recovery rate in NYC right now. I also think this will end up like the common cold, wherein most people end up with it at some point. I've been taking the same precautions I always have prior to March.
Same I can't go nuts and lose my mind over this. It won't do any good and it's a slippery slope.
I still go to the store when I need to, get take out, etc. I also take the same precautions I always have in terms of handwashing and wiping stuff down at home.
I follow the social distancing rules because it's the right thing to do to protect the more at risk and to hopefully get past this faster
I'm more concerned about the economy crashing than me getting sick to be honest.
But that's just how we are with everything. DH is even more laid back than I am.

Re: Coronavirus fear and worry?
Not sure if I answered this, but if I had, I would have said I'm not concerned. I still think everyone that is compromised should self-quarantine and let the rest of us live our lives.

Where did you see the 98% stats?

I feel similarly... I'm being more cautious than before. If something concerns me a lot, is the social and economic consequences in the future.

I don't think I responded to this particular thread but I was definitely cavalier about it. Not so much now. If you had told me a month ago what I would be doing today, I would never have believed it.

My husband told me I was overbuying. Well I had twins and had a hard time getting formula, diapers and wipes. Now he tells me he is glad I bought because he ordered 4 items and the store would only send him one.
I was in Target right at the start of this and saw people with carts full of toilet paper. I (rightly) started to worry that there would be a shortage, so I grabbed a few packs. My husband totally made fun of me and said that I was buying into the hysteria and "part of the problem". He recently admitted that he wished that he would have listened and we would have bought more.
But its kind of true. If everyone didn't decide toilet paper was the thing to hoard back then, we wouldn't have a shortage right now. One person panic buys something and others see them doing it and feel now THEY have to buy even more of it because others are doing it and causing shortage and so on and so on and it's becomes a vicious cycle that screws up the supply chain artificially. If everyone had just bought as normal there wouldn't be an issue right now.
I do not believe that is entirely true actually.
I read that due to the dramatic shift in usage with a sharp decrease in commercial toilet paper demand (people out of the office and stores, etc) and a sharp increase in residential toilet paper demand (number of people staying home has obviously increased), and the toilet paper is different and not interchangeable, there actually is a real decrease in residential toilet paper supply.
I'm really glad I didn't listen to the dismissive people on here back in February.

Coronavirus fear and worry?
I will admit that until mid-March, I thought everyone was over-reacting. But now, I'm nervous. Thankfully, no one in my immediate family/friends group has passed away. But, one friend is currently sick with COVID (she should be fine). My dentist passed away (59 YO), two friends/aquaintences of my sister passed away (81 YO and 40 YO). It's scary.

Re: Coronavirus fear and worry?
I am not going to live in constant fear but I'm going to be sensible.
Other than jogs around the neighborhood and one trip to pick up something curbside, I haven't left the house in two weeks.
DH goes grocery shopping and he hasn't been in almost a week. We're living off what we have. He'll go again Friday probably.
But we're homebodies and we have what we need - plenty of food and booze, a yard, books, netflix etc.
We feel fortunate that we can work from home and help contain this heaven forbid one of us is carrying this.
My son's birthday is tomorrow and it is what it is. We'll celebrate when this is over.
I can't believe people are still comparing this to the common cold. We know tangentially know multiple people who have died. I'm not saying anyone should panic, but I wish people would strategize their trips out a little more. Live off what you have and don't take a chance. (Some people have to go out because they don't have space in their kitchen or they have a large family or a baby or whatever. That's different. I'm talking about people who CAN so we can keep everyone safe.)

Now that you explained it I do see the distinction.
I still believe you (and not only you so I don't mean to pinpoint) are being too cavalier about it. I think it's too harmful for people to just assume everyone will end up with it and shrug it off. I feel like that thought process leads to a premature end to social distancing overall.

Definitely not being cavalier. I've always been a huge germaphobe, and always taken so many of these "new" precautions people are taking in my regular, pre-pandemic life. So, I'm pretty calm about the whole thing. I've been socially responsible, I follow the rules, I just refuse to freak out.

Same here. I am cavalier about it. I refuse to freak out. I'm not a germaphobe at all, but I'm very concerned about all the chemicals and pesticides on the products we buy and consume. That leads me to wash everything before eating/wearing it. Nothing new for me. My hands are always extremely dried out from washing (not just my hands but everything else too). If I stay home and keep everything clean, there is no reason for me to freak out.

I feel like if you aren't freaking out and jumping off the deep end with a doomsday attitude you are considered "cavalier". I follow the rules because it's the right thing to do for society in general, and I'm always careful about hand washing and keeping my immune system strong because I don't want the flu or a stomach bug or pink eye or strep so that is nothing new-but I will not let fear of this thing destroy me. For all I know I had it already and didn't know it. I could be one of the many asymptomatic people they keep telling us about.
If it's my time to go, it's my time to go. I can get hit by a car tomorrow.
Tons of people die in car accidents too but yet I still drive.
I just can't let my mental state go into a spiral. If that means I'm cavalier, so be it.

I shortened the quote because it was just getting too long lol. I guess I should have wrote... I'm not freaking out, if that makes me 'cavalier' so be it. It doesn't insult me to be called that lol.

Same. A month ago I wasn’t really thinking about it yet. I realize now how easily I could have gotten sick, like so many people had around that time. Once I started hearing of people I know personally, getting sick or dying, it really shocked me into becoming more fearful until I felt I had passed the number of days since I last went in public. Now we are just being super cautious. That’s all you can really do.

Re: Coronavirus fear and worry?
I'm somewhere in the middle on it.
I've always been a bit of a germophobe, so walking around with hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes in my bag is truly nothing new. I am extremely concerned with social distancing and protecting the weaker/older people. I haven't seen my mom because she's older and has cardiac issues and my DH is an essential employee so he's still going to work every day and potentially bringing home cooties.
I am really scared for the economic impact of all of this though. That has me freaked out more than anything right now.

Re: Coronavirus fear and worry?
I'm in the middle, cautious but not to the extreme, I do go out to the grocery store when we need stuff but I bring sanitizing wipes with me and a mask... like my mother has herself holed in her house and in these few weeks she looks like she has aged 10 years, she is blah and depressed. All I know is we can't keep going on like this for much longer because of not only economic turmoil, but for mental health issues as well
