Cost of private room?
Does anyone know?
Do they take a c section into consideration when placing you in a room?
I had a private room with my section and can't imagine having to do that recovery in front of someone else's DH and family. The nurses forced me to walk and pee in the bathroom. How in the heck could you do all that when sharing a room? So scared!!

Re: Cost of private room?
I hope they give you vicodin before forcing you to walk!
Some hospitals just let you have a private room room - the 2 that are near my home in North Jersey does that and they also have space for my DH in case he wants to sleep there.
Of course, my total hospital bill came out to about 30k for the induction/c-section and room.

Lol, yup on some sort of pain meds! They made me walk the next day and use the bathroom. It is quite painful so I was whimpering in pain. Having to do this in front of other people and possibly men is freaking me out already!!

Re: Cost of private room?
I delivered in feb at north shore and all the rooms are now private. When I delivered in 2009 I had to share.

I had a c-section and shared a room and didn't think it was a big deal. Actually, the woman in the bed next to me had a harder time and she had a vaginal delivery.
As for getting up to walk and use the restroom in front of other people, that's seriously the last thing on your mind. I wouldn't even give it a second thought. Plus, there are curtains around each bed that are usually closed all the time.

Re: Cost of private room?
It depends on the hospital. I had a private room at Lenox Hill the city, and it was $750 a night. Like you, I had a c-section and was so glad I had a room to myself. I stayed for 4 nights, and DH had to literally take me to the bathroom every night and help me. While I know it's totally doable in a shared room, I was so thankful we were able to get a private.
At my hospital, private rooms were first come first serve based on birth time.
Call your hospital. They'll give you all the details.

Re: Cost of private room?
At St. Catherine's the rooms are first come, first serve. So, there's no extra charge for private.
There are fewer shared than private rooms but some are private.

It depends on the hospital.
I know prior to the renovations they didn't at NSUH. My DS was in the NICU and they paired me with moms who had their babies with them and I was recovering from a csection. Now all rooms are private.
At Winthrop as long as its not busy they try to give all patients there own rooms but if busy they will double up. They no longer have the option to pay for a private room.

I had a c section and didnt think it was a big deal either. I delivered at good Sam and you private rooms are reserved for patients who really need them. Csection is not a need.

Cost of private room?
I'm sure it depends on the hospital. I had a c-section and DS was in NICU. I had a double room to myself for the entire 5 days I was there. I did notice some people were sharing rooms. I think more importantly than having a c-section was that they kept in mind that my DS was in NICU (on a different floor). I think it would have been very difficult for me to share a room with a mom and her newborn when I couldn't be with me. The c-section recovery didn't bother me- if I had to share a room under normal circumstances it wouldn't have made a difference. But having DS in NICU I was very happy to have my own room.

Re: Cost of private room?
I heard at Mt.Sinai it's $800/night. With a csection, that's $3200.
I don't know about you ladies.... but I'd rather share a room and get a couple of Gucci bags for that price! Unless those rooms include daily turndown service, feather pillows, premium cable tv, a chocolate on my pillow, and an on call masseuse, they're out of their minds.

Re: Cost of private room?
Depends on the hosptial I paid 220 a night for a private room at Southside 3 years ago. I don't think it has gone up much either- my friend just delivered there and paid the same I believe. Worth Every.Single.Penny I woudl rather have that then a bag, shoes or clothes. The privacy after giving birth is priceless to me.

Re: Cost of private room?
I paid $250 per night (stayed 2 nights) when I delivered my sons at St. Charles in 2008 & 2010. I plan on doing the same thing (if its available) for this delivery as well. I had a horrible experience sharing a room with someone when I delivered my daughter at Winthrop in 2006. So the cost is totally worth it to me!

Re: Cost of private room?
Southside is $240/night first come first serve. Best $$ I've ever spent.
I had my second CS last week and recovery has gone much smoother this time than the first. I was up and out of bed walking within 12hrs. Good luck!

I had a c-section at Lenox Hill in 2010 and i didn't get a private room, but I essentially did because the bed next to me was not being used. I have been thinking about getting a private room this time around because for me, it wasnt walking or being in front of people that bothered me, it was having to share a bathroom. Although, I like someone's rationalization on here, I think I'd rather buy myself a gucci and just deal with it for another days.
Definitely check with your hospital. A bunch only have private rooms.

I delivered at Mt. Sinai and we paid $500/night for a private room. There are more expensive options but I didn't see a need for it. The option we went with was fine.

Re: Cost of private room?
My hospital in manhattan charges $900/night for a private room. Recovery aside, I am most upset at the prospect of DH not being able to stay with me and the baby those nights I'm in the hospital because with shared rooms (at least at my Hosp) you can't have your SO stay over. It's really important to me for us to both have those initial moments with the baby (planning to room in with baby the whole time) and I also find hospitals to be really lonely when you are sleeping there without anyone else who is in better shape at the time than you, the patient. I don't know if it's worth the cost to me though. Tbd

OMG I said the same exact thing! Word for word on the crime scene! They also had to get maintainence up at one point because there was blood on the floor by my bed! I felt so when the nice older gentleman from maintainence showed up with the mop!
