CPSE meeting tomorrow.....
and I am worried... DS did a little too good on the one big test they gave him and now even the place we used for the evaluation said he may not qualify. He has a significant speech delay and a SPD, which they don't really deal with.. His speech just started to take off over the last 6 weeks and he is smart. His comprehension is really good but his language skills aren't where they should be. His speech therapist is coming with me tomorrow to be advocate for us... He still needs a lot of help with speech..I hope this isn't going to be so bad.. I don't need more stress in my life right now

Re: CPSE meeting tomorrow.....
We just had our first CPSE meeting at the end of September.
All of DS evaluations practically painted him as the Golden Child, with no significant issues, minus some focus/attention stuff, and really only what WE told them our concerns were.
All of the evaluators indicated that it was up to the committee to decide if he would receive services.
DH and I went in there thinking that he wasn't going to qualify and we're actually shocked when they gave him services 2x a week with a behavioral person.
Also, I found out that there should be a parent advocate at the meeting (someone who has a SN child who can advocate for you). Ours cancelled at the last minute and we were told by law, we had the option to reschedule if we wanted. We didn't, but just wanted to throw this out there----use that person if you feel it will help in your favor.
With DS, his behavior is not always apparent to people outside of our immediate family and friends, so I am thankful they gave us what they did.
P.S. I also brought up at the meeting the fact that we had initially taken him to a private child psychologist who indicated that we should go the school-based route because HE felt DS demonstrated issues that would not be tolerated in a school environment.
I think if they hear stuff like this, they will probably rule in your DC favor, to avoid issues down the road.

Re: CPSE meeting tomorrow.....
He qualified. He just made it...But he will only get 2 x a week for speech.. He now gets 3X a week, 45 mins a session. I really didn't think it was going to happen...If we were still living in our old school district, he wouldn't have gotten anything... I will take what we can get..
Thanks for all the good wishes!!!!

it's not a parent advocate, just a parent of a special need child who sits on committee. most times they don't have anything to add.
a parent advocate is totally different and you do that on your own.

Re: CPSE meeting tomorrow.....
Thanks for the clarification.
I have gotten a lot of wrong things said to me by the people who sat on the committee that day (i.e. this, that he could only have services in Suffolk and they also didn't know initially that minimum is 2 days, not one).
Glad I have this board to refer back to for tips!
And to OP, I am glad your DC got some services!!
