Crazy Update on me(babies are fine)
Well as some of you know I moved to Charleston SC in May. Since we have moved here we have had nothing but trouble. We live 2 blocks from the market right downtown.
First our car was stolen and taken for a "joyride." Which the cops then tried to blame on my DH being drunk and forgetting where it was parked. It was found 6 blocks from our house with the keys in it(he had dropped them the day before in the street and not noticed) Our car was not damaged though so all was OK.
Then my DH had his tires slashed-along with 10 or so other cars.
We went away and had a dogsitter and she left our garbage cans outside our gate in a little alcove(on the street) Our landlord came by and threw them over the fence! Because he is a drunken idiot.
Then the straw that broke the camel's back-We were getting ready to go on a short trip to Raleigh as we were considering moving there when our lease was up, after the babies were born-between Feb and April. I opened my closet where all my pre maternity clothes and shoes are-I hadn't opene this in about 2-3 weeks-all my maternity clothes are in a separate armoire. The closet stunk of mildew and there were white spots all over many of my shoes. Then i went into the bathroom off of that room and there was mold around teh A/C vent and the lightswitch.
We contacted the property manager and told her we wanted this fixed before we got home. So the cheapazz landlord decides to fix it himself, cleans it slaps some foam around the lightswitch and tells us we need to open the closet door more often My DH talked to him a few days later and the LL tells him oh we never had a problem in that room except in the vent. OH REALLY GENIUS-DON'T YOU KNOW IF THERE IS MOLD IN A VENT IT IS SPREADING THROUGH TH E WHOLE HOUSE. DON'T YOU THINK THATS SOMETHING YOU MIGHT HAVE SHARED WITH YOUR PREGNANT TENANT-LIKE KEEP AN EYE ON THIS VENT..OR MAYBE WHEN YOU SAW THEY HAD THEIR BABYS CRIB SET UP IN THIS ROOM TO MENTION SOMETHING ABOUT IT?!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so pizzed. So bottom line is we are moving to raleigh in 3-4 weeks-Yes I will be 8 months pregnant when I get there and have to get a new Dr and deliver at a new hospital but overall I am OK.
Jeez sorry so long. If any attorneys have any advice on our rights here we would love to hear it. I want to be reimbursed for some of my shoes and clothing that is ruined. We want our security obviously and even a few months rent back. What do you think? It is apparent he knew there was an issue when we moved in as he said it to my DH

WOW- thats insane! Too bad you've had such a bad experience- Charleston truly is beautiful (my brother lives there). Good luck with your move to Raleigh (another GREAT location).....I'll be moving to Wilmington in the summer so we'll be about an hour and 15 minutes away!

That's crazy! But really common. Mold is a serious problem and many houses have it. I had a friend who through a horrible mold problem and ended up with a series of heath concerns. She was a mess. I know they did sue their landlord but didn't really get anywhere. But that was before this mold issue was understood.
Good luck and congrats on getting out of there. It is certainly not worth your health!

UGH I'm so sorry to hear!!! Stephanie mentioned you were thinking of moving to Raleigh, but it sucks that you have to be in such a rush to leave. 
Or...there's always Charlotte...

That's horrible! Moving at 8 months pregnant will suck (I'll be doing that too), but hopefully you'll be in a much better place. Good luck with everything.

Hi Melissa-
Did you sign any kind of mold addendum when you moved in? Something that would have put the responsibility on you should mold happen in your apartment?
It's usually a separate form, not in the lease.

I found Charleston to be incredibly shady. Beautiful, then 2 minutes away is a nightmare...

I have friends who moved to NC, Raliegh area and are very happy. I say go for it as soon as you can. I don't know what to advise you about your apt but if it's moldy, you really need to get out asap.

Sorry to hear you're going through all of that. We moved to the Raleigh area, 1st year, Lake Wylie, SC), and we have had nothing but a wonderful experience. If you need some help with this area, just let me know. My mom is also a Real Estate agent and can help you with apartments or rental housing/house.
Where in Raleigh are you moving to? I personally can tell you of some of the areas that I love. I'd also HIGHLY (I love her) recommend my doctor and hospital but they're in Durham.
Let me know if I can be of any help.
ETA: I can also tell you what areas NOT to live in. Having kids myself I'm VERY picky.
