I really hope justice is done here.. I hate the idea of having to do this with at such a wonderful time in your life.. I am a very spiritual person but I can not see him getting away with one bit of this.. I really hope you get a good lawyer and he pays really hard for this... I hope that will help the next person he rents to .. Unfortunately you have to be the one to give him this lesson. I PRAY to GOD you get an attorney that gets paid contingancy so not one cent comes out of your pocket.. Just get the heck out of there ASAP!! Sorry for this struggle.. But you are strong!

By the way, I'm in Clayton (about 15 min. from Raleigh). Whenever you are up for a GTG (or playdate, after my twins arrive in March), let me know, I'd love to meet you!!!!

Sorry to hear you're leaving Charleston. Your experiences with crime sound like my first three years on Long Island! One thing after another. Thugs live everywhere, huh?
As far as the whole apartment/ mold thing. It might be a hard sell down here. You live downtown where humidity, mold and bugs are considered facts of life and dealing with them is just the norm. Be prepared for questions like, "Why didn't you check the closet?", "Did you have something like DampRid in the closet?", and I hate to tell you this but chances are that the landlord will try to turn the tables on you and say because you didn't take typical precautions like this, YOU caused damage to the apartment. Also, the court system is definitely "good old boys" and "North vs. South". But that condensation goes both ways. Right now the one thing you don't want to say to a native Southerner is "that's not how it's done up North". That will put the brakes on any sympathy.
I've got a few local lawyers coming in next week for appointments, I can feel them out for you if you want?

That would be great-thank you. My issue is not so much with the mildew on my clothes but with the mold in the vent that he knew was there but never said anything about It so happens the moldy vent is right next to the mildewed closet. The mold inspector who we hired said its becausethe venting is shoddy and run through the attic and were not sealed properly so warm air mixing with cold causes condensation and then, mold. We are not really seeking to sue him but we do want certain things before we leave.
