Re: Credit Card Debt - How Much Are You In?
most of our home improvements are on CC - but its zero percent, and will be paid off before interest kicks in. So im actually making $$ on my CC debt and dont consider it bad.

Re: Credit Card Debt - How Much Are You In?
i'm not proud, but i'm also not ashamed to say that we have a lot of cc debt.
there have been a few things that came out of left field, and we had to put them on cc's.
i say... that's what cc's are for- getting your arse out of an emergency.
we are paying the most we can afford to pay each month, and they are quickly coming down.
so, in short (since i know there was a legit reason for our debt) we are presently carrying about $25,000 in cc debt.
ouch!

Re: Credit Card Debt - How Much Are You In?
we currently carry about 8k but all of it is on 0% cards. Most of the charges are home improvement related. We plan on paying before the interest runs up or transferring....

Just as an FYI, paying your credit cards in full every month is less helpful for your credit score than carrying a low balance.
We pay our CC balances down to about $100 every month -- money we could easily pay off. I don't consider that "debt" as it's something we do for a purpose and could pay off at any time.
Really? I have never carried a balance on a CC and my score was 820 last time I checked.

Same here. We have one right now and I didn't count it because we could pay it off, we are just choosing to make the minimum payment each month.
I know it's ok to have a small balance but, I would rather not spend the extra money if I don't have to. I make all my payments on time and have excellent credit.

I think it's only an issue if you don't already have a solid credit history- it can prove that you can handle a debt. In that case it could be useful to keep a small balance on your CC. But if you have car loans or student loans that you have been paying back for a while, and your credit score is high, I don't think keeping a small balance on your CC does much to help. That being said, if the rate is low and it doesn't bother you, it won't hurt you so go ahead.
Personally, I have only once not paid my CC in full, and in that case I paid it off the following month.

I have about 4K on a zero interest card. I should pay it off, but I am getting just under 6% right now on my savings...ughhhhh we had everything paid down then moving expenses add up.

none.
I eliminated it when I got a small inheritance.
We don't buy anything that can't be paid off immediately.
Mortgage debt on the other hand..

i was going to say the same thing. but then again, when i think about all the people i know and have knowledge about their cc's, all either have zero balances or a ton. i guess some people are cc people and some aren't.
i take advantage of the zero percent offers quite often, even though i could pay it in full. i prefer to keep my money in savings where it is earning interest. we never buy what we can't afford.

same here, we have some but its on no-interest cards. It would be paid off by now but we found our dream home and went for it instead. we will use whatevers left over the pay some of it and than clean it out before the 0% int. ends. I never used to carry a balance, but 0% cards and home improvements call for a temporary solution.

I do not think she was saying it is bad to have cc debt, she was just saying she did not have any....why so defensive?

Re: Credit Card Debt - How Much Are You In?
I am proud to say that I went from having over $10K in cc debt to having about $2K left to pay off in about two years!
so excited! In college I couldn't work much so I put everything the loans DIDN'T cover on my credit card and I had terrible interest. Then, I switched to a 0% interest and have been paying off every month!

I think it was more the way it was worded. No one asked how much money anyone had in the bank. IMO it's a little tacky to supply that kind of info.
