So apparently if you are an essential worker or in a highly infected area for less than 24 hours you don’t need to quarantine?! Guess you can only spread covid if you are non essential and spend 25 hours plus in an effected area.
He is a walking hypocrite.
ETA this in in response to his visit to Georgia and not quarantining when he returns bc he is essential and will be there less than 24 hours.

That's all essential workers though. My brother is a pilot and he (of all people!) does not need to quarantine. Neither do my medical field friends.

Yes - he said that recently when he visited another high risk area (maybe Georgia, I'm not sure where) that he doesn't have to quarantine since he's essential.
ETA - You also don't have to quarantine if you travel for work.

I think because it's impossible to quarantine if you are essential.
For example the pilot mentioned above. He can't do his job if he has to quarantine for 14 days every time he is in a new city.
Another example would be if I went on vacation to Florida with DH if he was still a cop. When we got home, I could work from home for 14 days but he would have to go back to work being he was an essential worker.
It doesn't mean they can't spread it, but it's a risk that has to be taken to keep society working I guess

He makes up the rules by the second and rules don’t pertain to him. Like not wearing a mask and have the daughters boyfriend over for dinner in the beginning when he told everyone not to see anyone but their own family.

Agreed! Not a fan of Cuomo at all but I'm glad that this state seems to have a good handle on protective measures. I know plenty of people b!tching about masks but guess what? They are all wearing them so hopefully we remain in a good spot!

But he also said if you work for a state agency and travel to a state on the quarantine list and you get sick you will not be eligible for paid sick leave. So DH and I can go to Florida, DH can go back to work right away because he’s an essential state worker and if he gets sick within 2 weeks of that, he won’t get sick leave....

One of the reasons that we need to all quarantine or distance is so that essential workers can move about freely. All of us are served by essential workers, whether we voted for them or not.

I have a hard time criticizing Cuomo on the state level when it’s apparent that the federal level has failed. No leadership, no united message. Now the Gov of Georgia is suing the mayor of Atlanta. The fish rots from the head.

Didn’t cuomo say he calls the shots for New York? Governors are in charge of their states....not the federal government? The federal government gave cuomo everything he asked for early on.

That’s correct, if you travel for leisure to a state on the list and get sick, you are ineligible to get the paid sick leave. As it should be...

Trump refuses to make any sort of national policy, but is now, slowly starting g to say masks are “a good thing” because his poll numbers are so horrible - NOT because he will actually do anything about it.

I am so thankful to live in a state with an effective LEADER who did not take any of this lightly, who took charge, who put plans into place and who is not being bullied by the federal government.
I LOVED seeing his daily briefings as it made me feel like there was someone out there looking out for us. His banter with his brother on CNN made me laugh, and his obvious relationships with his daughters and his mother made me feel like he is a real human being who is in a GARBAGE position because everything he does is being scrutinized.
Honestly, what was he supposed to do with the people who live in nursing homes? They went to the hospital, were treated, and were sent home. If their "home" is a nursing home, that was there they were sent. I have an aunt in a nursing home on LI who tested positive, was treated in the hospital and released. We were given the option to bring her to someones house, but since she has been in the nursing home for years, no one was set up or prepared to care for her. What did you want him to do? Put these people on the streets? Keep them in hospital beds when they were deemed stable enough to leave? At that point, our hospitals were overflowing. My aunt was treated, deemed stable, and sent back to her NH. She is 82 and she is ok today.
To everyone criticizing that he wants to be a "dictator", tell me, how much better are states like Florida, Georgia, Texas, Arizona.... their governors have caved to pressure to "open up" and look at their numbers right now. Cuomo did an AMAZING job considering no one was prepared for any of this.
He is watching what is happening across the country and he learning from mistakes being made. That is why his decisions change often. Be reasonable... he is building this plane while flying it.... and we have not crashed yet.

For the good of the nation?!?! Have you seen what New York City looks like?! It’s a disgrace and so unsafe that I wouldn’t even drive thru it to get to Jersey. What Else is he going to teach the? how to bankrupt their state? How to put people out of business and keep them closed? How to divide their state? He should really be worrying about his own state. Lead by example, this could have been a zoom meeting. There was literally no reason to go there, he wants to criticize trump for going places but it’s ok for him. Our kids can’t go to school and should be doing virtual ....do your “meeting” virtually.
Trump can’t win....if he puts a national policy out there he is wrong and if he doesn’t he is wrong. We have governors for a reason. Every states situation is different.

For the most part, I agree with you. But there is no denying he is responsible for thousands and thousands of nursing home deaths. That is truly wonderful your aunt is ok, but MANY are not, they are dead. There clearly was another option, because he overturned the order on May 10th. You do not send a COVID positive person back into a nursing home where the entire population are the those most at risk of dying from this. It is irresponsible at best. Even the most vocal cuomo supporters I know admit that he really screwed up there.
