I am so thankful to live in a state with an effective LEADER who did not take any of this lightly, who took charge, who put plans into place and who is not being bullied by the federal government.
I LOVED seeing his daily briefings as it made me feel like there was someone out there looking out for us. His banter with his brother on CNN made me laugh, and his obvious relationships with his daughters and his mother made me feel like he is a real human being who is in a GARBAGE position because everything he does is being scrutinized.
Honestly, what was he supposed to do with the people who live in nursing homes? They went to the hospital, were treated, and were sent home. If their "home" is a nursing home, that was there they were sent. I have an aunt in a nursing home on LI who tested positive, was treated in the hospital and released. We were given the option to bring her to someones house, but since she has been in the nursing home for years, no one was set up or prepared to care for her. What did you want him to do? Put these people on the streets? Keep them in hospital beds when they were deemed stable enough to leave? At that point, our hospitals were overflowing. My aunt was treated, deemed stable, and sent back to her NH. She is 82 and she is ok today.
To everyone criticizing that he wants to be a "dictator", tell me, how much better are states like Florida, Georgia, Texas, Arizona.... their governors have caved to pressure to "open up" and look at their numbers right now. Cuomo did an AMAZING job considering no one was prepared for any of this.
He is watching what is happening across the country and he learning from mistakes being made. That is why his decisions change often. Be reasonable... he is building this plane while flying it.... and we have not crashed yet.

What did you want him to do? Keep people in hospitals until they test negative? There are people who are asymptomatic who test positive. So he was expected to fill the Javits with people until they were 100% well? Thats not feasible and NOT what protocol is. Once people are deemed stable enough to go home, they were sent home. And yes, unfortunately, because there are many people in nursing homes, many more got sick. This was at the beginning of this pandemic and I really do not think that it was done maliciously. I will ask again.. where do you think he should have sent them? People test positive for WEEKS after being sick. Be reasonable. The ship was NEVER supposed to be used for Covid patients and the Javits center (luckily) was not needed.
I will say it again... people in hospitals with Covid are being sent home once they are stable enough to go home. Not when they "don't test positive anymore". If their home is a nursing home, that is where they were sent. The families were given the option of taking them, many don't have the capacity.
It was up to the nursing homes to quarantine the patients and to take care of them. Many of the homes dropped the ball. This is a nursing home f*ck up... not a Cuomo one. Be angry at the subpar care in nursing homes, not the man.

When you KNOW these are your most vulnerable people you do not send them back to a nursing home. They can’t handle it. They did not have the PPE hospitals have. I have family that work in nursing homes, a lot of their staff ended up getting covid while my friends in hospitals said no one in their unit got it while working with covid patients. It was irresponsible of him. Send positive patients to the most vulnerable place. I’d be livid if my otherwise healthy parent was in a nursing home and died from it

ETA this in in response to his visit to Georgia and not quarantining when he returns bc he is essential and will be there less than 24 hours.
He makes up the rules by the second and rules don’t pertain to him. Like not wearing a mask and have the daughters boyfriend over for dinner in the beginning when he told everyone not to see anyone but their own family.
That amazed me, the having the boyfriend over for dinner at the height of all this when he told us not to see anyone.

Not a hypocrite, that's how it works when you are truly essential. And no matter what people think of him, Cuomo is one of the most essential in the state right now.
New York is a model state in America. We are doing things RIGHT. For all those people complaining that they wanted to move elsewhere come September... I think they are wrong. We are one of only a handful of states protecting ourselves.
I agree. Are all those people still house hunting down south?. When are they moving??

I think, just like with every politician (except Trump who has zero positives), Cuomo has made some mistakes and also done a lot right. He screwed up big time with nursing homes. Yesterday on his flight to Georgia, a reporter asked him about schools. He said if the infection rate is where it is now in August, he will be reopening schools. How many people who praise every single decision he made, will now rip him a new asshole because they think it is unsafe to open schools?
Point is, this was a learning curve for everyone. He made mistakes and it's ok to acknowledge those mistakes. Nobody is perfect.

Cuomo going to Georgia is for the good of the nation - to try and help a state that is hit hard, the way had been. To try and help educate about what we did right to get things under control. Because we have zero leadership from Washington. Where is the leadership of our country? Why is there no attempt to bring people together on this, instead of fueling the fires of divisiveness? Trump refuses to make any sort of national policy, but is now, slowly starting g to say masks are “a good thing” because his poll numbers are so horrible - NOT because he will actually do anything about it.

I don't think he needed to go to Georgia to "help" them. He could've done it via video conference. Unless he's trying to get more exposure in case he wants a more prominent political role (even though he said at one conference he didn't).
First - we all know what he is going to tell them that they need to do to try to minimize the spread - masks, social distance, no large gatherings, wash hands, some closures, etc.
But we are in good shape now but, we were hit really hard in the beginning. These other states that are having spikes now - didn't see the spikes we did back in April. And they are testing more people so it's not a true apples/apples comparision.
Also - their cases can be rising because more people are being tested. Our positive cases would've been a lot higher in the beginning if tests were more readily available.

I don’t know “how much he accomplished”, but in general, lots can be accomplished in a meeting. Isn’t that what meetings are for? What I do know is that the governor of GA is suing the mayor of Atlanta for putting a mask mandate into place. And I do know that the numbers in NY are now under control and I want it to stay that way. And anyone who says masks have nothing to do with that are flat out denying science. So, if he went and tried to talk some sense into the governor, good for him. If he went and shared his hard earned knowledge, good for him. And if something changes in GA, then good for all of us.

Get a life. Are you going to micromanage everything the governor does tit for tat? The man has more security, more testing, more PPE and more everything than you have with your non-mask-wearing self. He and everyone around him is tested multiple times.

I don’t know “how much he accomplished”, but in general, lots can be accomplished in a meeting. Isn’t that what meetings are for? What I do know is that the governor of GA is suing the mayor of Atlanta for putting a mask mandate into place. And I do know that the numbers in NY are now under control and I want it to stay that way. And anyone who says masks have nothing to do with that are flat out denying science. So, if he went and tried to talk some sense into the governor, good for him. If he went and shared his hard earned knowledge, good for him. And if something changes in GA, then good for all of us.

Get a life. Are you going to micromanage everything the governor does tit for tat? The man has more security, more testing, more PPE and more everything than you have with your non-mask-wearing self. He and everyone around him is tested multiple times.
Wow, just wow. You are being told and scolded about wearing masks, social distancing, not seeing your family in nursing homes and hospitals who are dying but this man finds it ok to not wear a mask and hug strangers?
I am not micromanaging anything. It is all over the internet as he thought he was sly to do this off camera.
Just like we attack Trump for not wearing a mask, why can’t we do the same with him?
I done care how many times he is tested. He is setting a horrible example as a leader and why should we listen to him when he is not taking this seriously enough to care about others he might be infecting?

Yes, I don’t know if I’m a full blown trump supporter, I prefer him over Biden.
But there have been TONS of times I have said he’s an idiot. His refusal to wear a mask, “Kung flu”, etc....

I am so thankful to live in a state with an effective LEADER who did not take any of this lightly, who took charge, who put plans into place and who is not being bullied by the federal government.
I LOVED seeing his daily briefings as it made me feel like there was someone out there looking out for us. Honestly, what was he supposed to do with the people who live in nursing homes? They went to the hospital, were treated, and were sent home. If their "home" is a nursing home, that was there they were sent. I have an aunt in a nursing home on LI who tested positive, was treated in the hospital and released. We were given the option to bring her to someones house, but since she has been in the nursing home for years, no one was set up or prepared to care for her. What did you want him to do? Put these people on the streets? Keep them in hospital beds when they were deemed stable enough to leave? At that point, our hospitals were overflowing. My aunt was treated, deemed stable, and sent back to her NH. She is 82 and she is ok today.
To everyone criticizing that he wants to be a "dictator", tell me, how much better are states like Florida, Georgia, Texas, Arizona.... their governors have caved to pressure to "open up" and look at their numbers right now. Cuomo did an AMAZING job considering no one was prepared for any of this.
He is watching what is happening across the country and he learning from mistakes being made. That is why his decisions change often. Be reasonable... he is building this plane while flying it.... and we have not crashed yet.
He put them in the nursing homes while they were positive. While the javits and the ship He begged for sat practically unused.
What did you want him to do? Keep people in hospitals until they test negative? There are people who are asymptomatic who test positive. So he was expected to fill the Javits with people until they were 100% well? Thats not feasible and NOT what protocol is. Once people are deemed stable enough to go home, they were sent home. And yes, unfortunately, because there are many people in nursing homes, many more got sick. This was at the beginning of this pandemic and I really do not think that it was done maliciously. I will ask again.. where do you think he should have sent them? People test positive for WEEKS after being sick. Be reasonable. The ship was NEVER supposed to be used for Covid patients and the Javits center (luckily) was not needed.
I will say it again... people in hospitals with Covid are being sent home once they are stable enough to go home. Not when they "don't test positive anymore". If their home is a nursing home, that is where they were sent. The families were given the option of taking them, many don't have the capacity.
It was up to the nursing homes to quarantine the patients and to take care of them. Many of the homes dropped the ball. This is a nursing home f*ck up... not a Cuomo one. Be angry at the subpar care in nursing homes, not the man.
I followed the daily press briefings. The federally run facilities weren't accepting discharged nursing home patients. That was a federal decision and not a possibility.
I'm not sure where anyone would have expected them to go?
Cuomo said numerous times that if a nursing home wasn't capable of safely accepting a discharged person they should contact state and state would place them somewhere else.

On this board I am considered a Trump supporter because I wouldn’t vote for Biden but I think he is just as wrong for not wearing a mask,
Not sure why if you support Trump, and again I am not saying I am, you think someone agrees with everything he does.
