I don't know, for me personally I don't think I will ever test again. My guideline is if I am sick I stay home and once I feel better I can go out. I havent heard of anyone doing the 5 day thing unless specifically required by their job or school, and in that case I believe day 1 would be the day you test positive.
I understand totally. However, it's my daughter who tested positive and only because she had a very slight runny nose. That was her only symptom. For a runny nose, I would normally be like "Oh, you're fine." But obviously not. If I didn't test her, I would have sent her to school because she isn't sick-sick. KWIM?
She was sick 2 weeks ago with a fever and nausea. Obviously, we kept her home then for a few days.
Did you test when she had a fever and nauseous?

According to our school, this came from human resources. This is for staff and students. If you test positive for COVID, you need to quarantine for 5 days. Day 1 is the day you tested.

Yeah. But for THAT time, we were going to a birthday party and her brother had ALL the symptoms and so I was testing him. I tested her too since we were going to a party and I wanted to be sure. He was negative with fever, aches, and sneezing while she was positive for a runny nose.

Current Covid Guidelines?
If I’m sick, I’m testing. My work still gives time off for Covid which doesn’t count towards your regular sick time. I only have a runny nose or sore throat when I’m sick - no allergies. Same goes for my son. If he has a runny nose, he’s sick with something. My husband on the other hand has a runny nose 360+ days a year. The days he doesn’t have a runny nose, I’m concerned - lol.
My son’s table partner at school just tested positive so I’m keeping an eye on him for symptoms and would test if he was sick in the next few days.

I’m not sure if you commented on this because I didn’t follow this whole thread but your son most likely had Covid too.
The last time I had Covid I tested negative on the rapid, my DH was positive instantly. My symptoms were more severe. I gave up on rapid tests after that. Lol. If DH didn’t test positive I would have assumed I had a bad cold or flu.
Only bringing this up for people who rely heavily on rapid tests.

I'm with you. Myself, DH or DD have never tested. and thank goodness never sick (knock on wood). I was not a mask person ether. I have been working with little kids for over 20 years. I feel my body has built up its own immunity. Which is how our bodies were made. The masks may help you not get sick but at the same time its not allowing your body to build up immunity to illness.
Side note: I had to change my screen name I wasn't able to log into old name. I use to be 3girls1dog

I don’t think they work all that great. I have been home sick all week with my kids. I said before I won’t take Covid tests anymore but then I thought to myself, I do get up to 5 days back from my employer so I took the stupid thing and it was negative. But it’s says on the package basically anything could make a false negative…

They definitely are not accurate. If they say positive you can be pretty sure you're positive. If they say negative, not so much at all.
So I am not sure the point...i mean i guess if they say positive you know for sure but if they say negative and you think you're safe to go.to work etc, it's kind of a false sense of security

Well, Im going to put my 2 cents in here. If your child is not feeling good, such as coughing and congestion for days, and the student tells me their parents refuse to test, and keep saying its a cold, then please keep them home. It's not fair, and I think it is pretty selfish,
I get it, refusing to test every time your child coughs or sneezes it crazy, but if they are not feeling well for days, keep them home.

Same - DS was sick a few weeks ago, started with a cough and turned into some head congestion and fever. I kept him home until the fever was gone and he wasnt coughing as much. I did send him back with a cough as the cough takes longer to go away.

Right. If your kid is not feeling well they stay home. Plain and simple. There is no reason to know if it's covid if there is no medication for them to take regardless. We don't run out for a flu test every time our kid gets the sniffles, and it's still possible they have the flu and are spreading it. That's how life works.

Also it’s pretty safe to assume he has antibodies for a next few months. So if he he gets a cold in a few weeks, the chances of it being Covid are very minor.
That’s really the reason I like to know if it’s Covid or flu.

Bingo! Did people not get sick prior to 2020? I don’t understand. Back in the olden days when the flu was in town, my coworkers grandson had 70% of his kindergarten class out with the flu and no one batted an eye.kids stayed home and recovered. Now someone has the sniffles and people lose their minds. Stay home if you’re sick. Plain and simple.

it's 5 days. i test weekly for work, don't usually test my kids. I tested them when I came back positive, and kept one child home for 5 days. The other wasn't positive, so she still went to daycare. You don't need to stay home if you're a close contact anymore.

Pretty sure its 5 days quarantine and then 5 days in a mask. Day 1 is date of positive test.
Day one is supposed to be the onset of symptoms. Not the day you test. I’ve had multiple doctors tell me this.
Making day 1 the day you test is dumb. What if you felt sick for a few days but didn’t bother to test for a few days. The clock doesn’t start until some lab test says so? 
The CDC website has a calculator where it will tell you how long you need to stay home for. The calculator doesn’t care if/when you test anymore. It goes by the day of symptoms. 5 days quarantine from start of symptoms and 5 days with a mask on. Anybody that says the clock doesn’t start until you test is using antiquated information.
