Am i the only one who doesnt curse much? My kids (almost 13 and 15) think i am nuts and i notice most adults around me curse a lot.

Kids listen to rap music with cursing and its not that i want to censor music but i tell them im still your mother dont listen to it when i am here.

DD has a friend over and they are in the LR singing along with a song with curse words. We would never have thought of that being ok as kids. But i feel like maybe other parents dont care so much? Am i too strict?

Re: Cursing

I curse like a sailor, but I don't allow my DD to use those words and she knows better.
I wouldn't be ok with her listening to music with all those profanities or repeating it back.
She's only 8- but even if she was older.

Cursing

I curse around adults only. I actually have a pretty bad mouth at times. I never curse around my child or other children. I grew up in a house where my mom cursed, but my dad didn’t. We were mostly exposed to my mom so we picked it up unfortunately.

I rarely ever curse. It irks me when people curse around kids. I think cursing is a bad habit that develops easily.

Re: Cursing

I don't think you are being too strict. I know a lot of people who don't curse around their kids or don't curse at all. And a lot will not have their kids listen to music with bad words.

I on the other hand am very very bad. Like trucker mouth. I also curse in front of my son and he has been listening to my gangsta rap music since he was a baby. Surprisingly he never cursed as a baby and doesn't curse now. Who knows what he will be like as an adult. I really need to stop.

I always respect other people's kids and their wishes. I don't play that music in my car when I driving with my nieces.

Yes, I curse like a longshoresman, but never around my kids. DD (just yesterday) whispered to DH that a boy in her class used a curseword: "idiot" Chat Icon

Re: Cursing

Not a big cursor. Mostly in the car. Usually I say... What the F! I also worked at a daycare for years in my early 20's while going to college and I think it stopped me from cursing more and I spell a lot of it out. My boys are 9 and 7. They will pick up sometimes on DH and I saying bad things, but usually not too bad. Mostly say "crap" a lot. They know some bad words and know not to say it. Funny thing is my younger son knows more bad words than his older brother. LOL

Re: Cursing

Not a big fan of curse words, never used them or heard them from my parents while growing up.
I slip every once in a while and then make an effort to be more aware of my language.

DH, on the other hand, uses the f-bomb in normal
conversation and it bugs me to no end. He is even worse when he is around one of his friends.
He sees nothing wrong with it, his mother used it on a regular basis too.
It just doesn't stand well with me.

I curse like an animal.... I do know when it's not appropriate - work meetings, in front of my FIL in front of other people's kids but I do curse a lot

to me it's a word, there are way worse things I could do than curse

I agree. I never saw the big deal with.
I mean I don't want my DD cursing (until she's an adult Chat Icon), I won't curse in professional settings,(except around my boss- we curse like sailors to each other, lol), won't curse in front of my parents too much, around kids etc

But grown adult saying certain words- eh doesn't bother me.

Re: Cursing

I curse. A lot.

My entire family does. My parents cursed in front of us but we knew it wasn't allowed until we were adults. How that even worked, I'll never know. Our parents had a good hold on us I guess lol

I don't curse in front of kids. It's definitely an effort on my part and find myself changing F7ck to fudge in a blink.

I don't think you're being strict. Music can be really raunchy - curse words or not!

Re: Cursing

I don't mind curse words... to me it's just a form of expression. My kids listen to and sing songs with curses but would never do so at an inappropriate time or place.

Re: Cursing

I curse constantly, its just part of my regular vocabulary. Always has been. I curse in front of but not AT my kids. They understand those are adult words and that they are not to use them until they are adults (although Im sure my oldest in MS probably curses around his friends).

I curse and need to stop....my 2.5 year old was using WTF (the full thing) appropriately --- I got her to stop that. But her newest is "damn it" ...she'll say it and then say "I'm funny" -- My child will be the bad influence! I'm trying desperately to control the cursing by me and DH. Growing up my parents (when we were teenages I guess but not younger than that) didnt really mind cursing as long as we werent cursing AT them, i.e. FU etc.

Same here, I think its bad manners and just bad behavior ("ghetto") to engage in excessive cursing.

I curse. I do not apologize for it. I curse in front of my children sometimes too. I DO NOT curse at work ever.

My teenagers curse sometimes when around their friends and occasionally will drop a "bad word" here and there in conversation with me... I am ok with it. They do not curse AT me nor do I curse AT them.

To each his own... if that makes me "ghetto" then I will accept that. I DO hope however that the poster who referred to this as "ghetto" behavior is PERFECT.

I curse a lot. My DD says the "F" word is my favorite word. Working on it.
But she knows not to say curse words. I tell her that it's something that adults say.
With that said, I don't curse at work and I've never said the "F" word in front of my mother. I'm 44.

Re: Cursing

I grew up in a household that did not curse. I heard my parents say a "bad" word every so often but it was like a shock when it happened. I very rarely curse. Never with my kids and maybe a couple "F" bombs if I was with friends if I was getting very passionate about a story. My husband curses so much and I hate it! He came from a home that also cursed a lot. It is all what you grow up with and get used to. My kids do know curse words because of my husband. They know better to curse out of the house but sometimes they will throw a curse out there to see what I say. I just tell them they are not nice words and no one should use them - adults and kids.

I don't think you are being strict. I also agree that constant cursing sounds terrible. I would never want me children to grow up to be men that throw around the "F bomb" every other sentence.
