dairy/soy allergies. I am at a complete loss.
So, I am at a complete loss and I am hoping some one can offer me some insight. I'll try and make this short but I'll start from the beginning.
When DS was born we had some issues finding him the right formula, so finally got him on nutramigen, be of what we thought was colic and acid reflux. But now looking back we figure it was probably be of a dairy issue. ( but we didn't know that until recently) So anyway Ds turns 1 we start to switch him over to milk and once we got him on all milk, I noticed my little boy was very different. Then after 3 days of being on all milk, I noticed blood in his stool. Dh and I took him to the ped, they confirmed it and sent us to the gi dr. We went back on formula , went to the GI dr who wanted tons of test to be ran, then we went back to the GI dr thursday for all of his results. All they stuff she tested for came back at a 0 except for dairy which came back in at a 2. So since soy came back at a 0 she said to put DS on soy milk. Well we start to put Ds on soymilk. We did 1 bottle Friday, 2 yesterday and 2 today. Well today I noticed Ds was constipate, so i gave him some prune juice along with some fruits to help him go. Then by 7pm he still didn't go, so we went about our routine and did bath time, well Ds pooped in the tub. I scoop the poop out and since the last blood experienced, I have become a poop inspector. Anyone I saw 2 red spots in there, so I am taking tp and smooshing it around to try and figure out if its blood or pizza from yesterday. Anyway I go dress DS and yell for DH to come look and he cant figure it out and I guess not knowing I wanted to save it for the gi he flushed it .
So now I am just confused and don't know what to do. I am gonna call the GI dr in the morning, but I guess what really has me puzzled is if his soy came back at a 0, could that really have been blood in his stool, I saw today.
Any suggestions/thoughts would be great.
ETA: I just talked to my MIL and I guess she forgot and she gave DS peach yogart yesterday. I am wondering if that has anything to do with it.

Re: dairy/soy allergies. I am at a complete loss.
My DS had a dairy and soy allergy which he outgrew. Both his ped and GI never sent him for bloodwork to check the allergy because allergies that show up as digestive issues do not always show up in the bloodwork. They had me start giving him dairy and soy and then did a stool test a week later and then another a month later. Your DS could still have an allergy or intolerance to soy even though the testing was negative.

Re: dairy/soy allergies. I am at a complete loss.
When my daughter was younger she had very similar problems. By 9 months we severely limited any dairy products (milk, cheeses, ice cream, etc.) It helped a lot. She wasn't even on formula anymore, strictly water and juice. I maintained that diet for years and slowly started to give her a bit more dairy to check her tolerance. Now, at 9, she can eat and drink basically anything but I still keep the dairy to a minimum. Don't worry....or try not to.

Is it possible there is still dairy in his system, which would be causing the blood in his stool. I know it does take a week or two for the body to rid itself of all the dairy that has been ingested, even if you aren't eating it anymore. Maybe that is what his body is doing, and it is just still showing up in his stools.

This is what I was going to suggest as well - I wouldn't jump the gun on soy just yet.

Not sure if it matters but after the milk thing happened, Ds was put back on formula for about 4 weeks until he got his test results back.

I was going to say this as well. Also, soy does tend to constipate, so if you do continue with soymilk, you may want to do the prune juice often as well, or ask the dr. and see what they say.
