Any success stories using CIO for naps

DS is 9 months old and has always been a "motion napper" stroller carseat etc. I have decided it is time for me to work on naps in his crib for various reasons. He sleeps through the night in it witout a problem but we are on day 3 of trying CIO for nap time, and I feel like hes getting worse not better today he cried off and on for an hour witout ever falling asleep. I took him out after the hour was up. Any advice or success stories?
TIA

We have used CIO for naps. DD is the same as yours, will fall asleep in the car too.

My only advise is to be consistant. It's hard sometimes, but we know when DD is tired and she will fall off to sleep.

Good luck!

Re: Any success stories using CIO for naps

We did CIO for naps and it only took 2 days for it to kick in. DD would ONLY nap on me...2x a day and I finally had enough. So I let her cry.

She got the hint pretty quick Chat Icon

Hope it's successful for you Chat Icon

We did cio for naps. It took a couple of days before she figured it out. She still cries when I put her in the crib but it only lasts a few minutes and then she falls asleep.

Re: Any success stories using CIO for naps

We started CIO for bedtime and naps together at 5 1/2 months, DD has always been a great sleeper but we were rocking her to sleep and wanted her to learn to sooth herself and put herself down to bed.

It took a couple of days being VERY consistant and it worked. I also wanted her to have an "object" that was related to sleep either being naptime or bedtime. I gave her a little tiny blankey.

After just a few days and still to this day at 7 months, we put her in the crib, hand her the blankey, she rolls on her side or belly and off to sleep within minutes. She talks to herself sometimes to sooth herself, but the most important thing is that SHE can put herself to sleep :)

Re: Any success stories using CIO for naps

Yup. We started it at 5 1/2 months.

Like you, my ds would only fall asleep in the swing, rocker, car seat, etc. Anything with motion. But around this time, ds wouldn't go in the swing anymore... which is where he would nap the best. So we then had to walk around the house and bounce him. As time went on, this process went from 5 minutes to 30 minutes in order to get him to sleep. Then as soon as you put him down, he'd wake up. Then you'd start over. It was exhausting and eventually taking so long to get him to sleep... that you felt like as soon as you were done, it was time to start over. And he'd only sleep like 30-45 minutes which was the aggravating part. Literally our arms felt like they were going to fall off each day.

Anyway, the first time, ds cried for 45 minutes before falling asleep. Then it was 20 minutes, then 10, then 5, then 2 minutes. After about 4 days... he didn't make a peep going down. Chat Icon

Definitely be consistent and don't give up. In the long run, it's much better for them (and you). Chat Icon

Oh and as time went on... his naps began to get longer too, which was nice.
