Daycare Mommies

Is your center closer to your home or office. The one center I really like is a bit east of my home (about 7 miles) and the potential employer is west

I actually have both kinds of parents. For some it is near their jobs for others right near their homes.

Re: Daycare Mommies

mine is closer to home -- two reasons (1) i wanted it to be convienient for both DH and I because I drop off and he picks up. (2) I wanted him to be in the car for the least amount of time possible (in the event of fussiness and all around general saftey). #1 played a large role in the decision. Ultimately you should do what will work with your schedule and aim to make it as easy for you as possible. HTH!

Mine is a few minutes east of my home. It is not near my job at all but the reason being that she doesn't start daycare until 12pm and I leave for work before 7am.

Re: Daycare Mommies

Mine is closer to work. Since he doesn't nap in daycare, he gets sleep in the car (it's a 50 minute drive); I BF and therefore, I'm close if EBM or BFing is needed; if there's a problem, I can get there quickly; I can bring him by the office for a visit every now and then Chat Icon .

My commute is only 20 minutes and it's just about at the midpoint, maybe a little closer to home. It just happened to work out that way.

If I had to chose I'd say closer to home for 2 reasons. First in case DH needed to take her or pick her up. Second, I work from home 2 days a week and if I really needed to get something done it would be easier to drop her off closer to home. I've never done it, but nice to know I have the option if needed.

Home.

But if it was close to work that would require me to bring them on the train...and as you know...she wasn't exactly quiet the last train ride.Chat Icon

Beginning when?? If it's not immediate you could send Jenna to the school Alec's going to next Sept. It's in Commack, BRAND NEW and appears fantastic!!

Re: Daycare Mommies

There are advantages to having the daycare close to work. Visits on lunch breaks, HOV'ing it and not having to pay extra for hours that are beyond the standard due to your commute.

I live in Selden, Emma goes to daycare in Centereach (I'm pretty sure the same one you are looking at) and I work in Medford. It's only a few minutes out of the way and while there is a daycare center right in the business plaza I work in, the one she attends is much less expensive, cleaner , more spacious and has a great staff!

Re: Daycare Mommies

I would put her in a daycare near home. I've been through this before & still feel I made a mistake. Although the daycare is close to my home, it's not in my school district.

You get to know the moms & kids from daycare. Birthday parties start at about 3-4 years old. Later on when she enters elementary school, you'll find a bunch of kids & moms have already formed a group & know each other really well.

I think it's a hard transition & wish I would have known better.

Not a daycare mom but some of my friends are and I know it's mixed.
SIL's daycare is right near her house while one of my friends has her daycare near work. Her DD went when she was an infant so she would go at lunch to nurse her. SIL uses formula so that wasn't an issue and for them closer to home was easier since her and her DH work opposite locations.
Honestly I think finding the center you are comfortable with is the top priority, at least ofr me it would be.

same her for the same reasons.
I had Bryan in a daycare that was close to my job at first with the intention of being able to pick him up when I needed fast but the ride it was torture for him. It works out much better to have him closer to home so that he is in the car for the least amount possible.

Re: Daycare Mommies

so far we've been spoiled with their nursery/preschool being about 90 seconds away from my house (literally Chat Icon) so now im searching for something for the little one, and im being so hesitant because of distance. Chat Icon (he's not old enough for the school yet)

I would say, if possible, close to home is best, so you can pick her up last stop befofe you get home.

Re: Daycare Mommies

The daycare DD will be going to is literally 2 mins from home and about 10 mins from work. So it works out pretty well.
