Daycare moms, question for you

I may have to find part time care for Steven. What are some things to look for when visiting Family Day Care centers? What are some questions to ask?

I looked for Cleanliness., that was so important to me, I saw some scary stuff out there, I made sure the kids looked happy too. What town are you in?

I look for how they deal with the difficult kids. Do the teachers get frustrated? What is the turnover rate?

Talk to some of the parents if you can. Ask them what their biggest complaint is. That is the best gauge, IMO.

Re: Daycare moms, question for you

Thank you very much. I have my list of places that I have to see.

One place I called said that they don't have an opening, but I can come see the facility if I would like. What is that supposed to mean? If they don't have an opening, why would I go see the facility?

Openings become available. This happened to me and of course, the place I liked the best had no openings in July. However we weren't sure we would find another place by August or September (when we needed to start) and we went on the waiting list and sure enough, my son got a spot for September. Sometimes parents take their child out of day care for whatever reason, or they switch from full time to part time, and sometimes kids graduate to different rooms as they get older, etc. so you should definitely still check it out.

Re: Daycare moms, question for you

When I was looking for a new daycare for my son (had a bad experience w/ the first) I looked for cleanness, if they have the children on a daily routine, what happens if my dc doesn't want to take a nap when the others do, can you pop by when ever you want without calling (you shouldn't have to call), what do they do if your child doesn't listen (like not sharing, hitting, etc what little kids do) I would also look to make sure it's kid proof (check outlets). Good Luck to you.

People tend to drop out so you never know. Plus, think of it as comparison shopping - as least you'll see what's out there.
