DayCare vs. Family watching baby..$ question

okay..if you have family watching your dc, how much did you offer to pay them? I don't necessarily ned an exact figure, but would you offer more or less than a daycare center?

For example, daycare that we like charges $1025 for 8:30am-5:30pm. Aunt may watch baby, but only from 9:00am-3:00pm..

What would you do..or what do you do?

Re: DayCare vs. Family watching baby..$ question

My MIL watches my daughter 2 days and my parents watch her 1 sometimes 2 days a week and my DH and I watch her the other two depending which one of us is home. We do not pay them and we never brought up the topic. However this Christmas we bought each set of parents really nice gifts because we are so blessed to have them helping us. For my parents we chipped in with my Sister and Brother and bought them a iMac and for my ILs we bought them a trip to Maine.

My ILs watch Kaydyn every day while we work. When they offered to watch her we asked how much they wanted. My MIL watched kids in her house for 15 years so we figured she would know better than us what is a fair price. Well she wanted nothing. She will not let us pay her. We do buy all the supplies she needs.

Crashing ... my MIL will probably be taking care of DC 3 days a week. She hasn't asked for anything, but we are planning to pay her. Not as much as daycares charge though.

My BFF's mother takes care of her DS at least 5 days a week for anywhere from 12-16 hours a day (because of her and her DH's work schedules) and they also pay her less than a daycare would charge.

Someone else we know has her mom taking care of her DS and they don't actually pay her, but they gave her a CC for her to charge all her monthly grocery expenses etc.

My sister is going to take care of my DD Monday to Thursday from 8:30 to 5 and half day on Friday. She is coming to our apartment.

We are paying her what we would pay for day care for a 3 month old.

I couldn't justify paying her any less since we are essentially getting a nanny for the cost of a day care center.

ILs will most likely be watching DC in my home three days a week. I will be paying them, but less than I would pay for a nanny and significantly less than day care. I will also provide food/supplies/etc.

ETA - FM if you want numbers
