DS has it it comes and goes and it isn't very bad. Heat brings it on. We've done great with aveeno products and some prescription ointments...

DD has it and certain things flare it up, particularly heat/dryness and sunscreen. We've had great success with:
1. California Baby Super Sensitive Shampoo and Body Wash
2. Prescription hydrocortisone cream from the dr. Put on the flare-up spots each evening with a fragrance free lotion like Aveeno on top. Lotion only on the other parts every day.
3. A sensitive sunscreen with a lower SPF. Low SPF, applied more often, is better for them than a super high SPF. We use California Baby. It's expensive but it's the ONLY one she didn't react to.
Don't worry - it looks a LOT worse than it is and once you get it under control the flare-ups won't look so bad because you'll be able to nip them in the bud. Feel free to FM.

Re: DD was just diagnosed with eczema - Any moms out there who can help?
1) Is there anything I should avoid to help keep it under control?
2) How often do you bathe DC if he/she has eczema? I was told to bath daily or as often as possible. I assumed it would be the opposite, but I have to say, frequent baths made the difference for DS. When I see a flare up, he gets a bath and it's usually gone the next day. His derm even recommended adding a capful of bleach to his bath because his eczema sometimes would get bacterial infections (yellow, crusty and ooze.) Oh and I use Aquaphor soap which is available in the baby aisle or at Babies R US. (I'm not a big fan of Aveeno and I didn't see results like I did with the Aquaphor.)
3) What medication/creme do you use? I was given three prescriptions: Mometasone furoate (topical steroid, stronger than hydrocortisone), Mupirocin (antibacterial) and 2.5% Hydrocortisone (for his face). I also highly recommend Aquaphor ointment after baths or before bed time!!! If I felt DS was starting to get little rough spots, he got a rub down of the ointment. I use it on his face too. That's my go to "medicine" before anything else.
4) Is it normal for it to appear out of no where, and start spreading like crazy? I believe my DS was just shy of 1 when we started noticing it on his face. I tried to treat it on my own with OTC cortisone, but then it began to pop up all over his body (back, arms, legs.) We took him to the Ped. Derm, followed her instructions and now at 2 he rarely gets a break out on his bod. His face seems more prone to it, but it's easily controlled with showers/baths and the hydrocortisone if needed.
5) Will she have flare ups, and then times when it's not there? It definitely becomes more apparent in the winter or colder weather. A humidifier made a difference.
6) DD ALWAYS leaks through her overnight diapers (even with a size 6 and a pad in there, too). I have reduced the number of oz of liquid before bed, and it seems to be helping a little. Can the wet diapers over night be contributing to her flare ups? I didn't notice a correlation between wet diapers and eczema, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Again...Aquaphor before bedtime on the tushy/private areas might make a difference.

Re: DD was just diagnosed with eczema - Any moms out there who can help?
DD is 2.5 and she had eczema pretty pad for over 2 yrs and then it just went away (we think it had something to do with our old apt) We saw 3 dermatologists including dr. Kristal in LI and they all told us that it would go away, so it did.
anyway to answer your questions:
1) Is there anything I should avoid to help keep it under control?
- heat, cold, dry air (use humidifier) ALWAYS wash new clothes before you put them on DC. use gentle/sensitive detergent. make sure you buy cotton PJs and any clothing that comes in direct contact with DC's skin. use sensitive wipes and no scent diapers. we couldn't use pampers bc DD would break out from it, she'd get a horrible "diaper rash" which turned out to be eczema (I guess there is something in it) so we used huggies.
2) How often do you bathe DC if he/she has eczema?
-doctors told us no baths or very short baths, NO bubble bacth , even with sensitive body wash. make sure water isn't too hot when giving DC shower (or bath) use AVEENO baby body wash.
3) What medication/creme do you use?
-I SWEAR BY CE-RAVE lotion (in a blue bottle) all 3 dermatologists recommended it. Used it 2x am-pm
also one dermatogogist prescribed Hydrocortisone (spl) ointment stronger than the one in drug stores, but since she was still getting flare ups dr .Kristal prescribed alcometasone (spl) and it helped SO MUCH.
4) Is it normal for it to appear out of no where, and start spreading like crazy?
-YES
5) Will she have flare ups, and then times when it's not there?
-YES
I don't know what your DR said , but ours assured us that DD had what's called "mild baby eczema" and it would go away around 2-3 YO (which I guess it did)

Re: DD was just diagnosed with eczema - Any moms out there who can help?
DD has eczema also she has had it since an infant and more on her face and on her body. It soooooooo drives me crazy to get it under control. She always has flare ups on her face.
The pedia recommended Desonide cream 3 times a day.
I bathed her every 2 days during the winter and during the summer I will bathe her everyday.
She sometimes get it on her arm and then acouple of days later its gone
the pic is what DD has on her face and body.
I havent' taken her 1st birthday pics because her face looks bad
