Deep soaker tub or regular tub

I am redoing my bathroom. I don't take baths anymore. Since shopping, I noticed that most tubs are the deep soakers, which are at least five inches higher and two inches wider. Kind of hard to get used to a deeper tub. I wanted to just make a shower stall but if we sell the house down the road, it will hurt trying to sell with no tub in house. I see all of Kohler's acrylics are deep soakers. Are the regular size baths going to be a thing of the past? Not sure if I should get something that I don't need or go with the old version tub. What do you all have that have done your bathrooms in the past few years?

I'm in the middle of redoing my bathroom. I went with a standard sized tub, mainly because it is cast iron. The soaker tubs all seem to be fiberglass or acrylic and I wanted something more sturdy. My girls are little and still take baths, and honestly it's easier for me to bathe them in a tub with the lower size.

We're in the middle of redoing our hallway bathroom and we're getting the soaker tub. I would actually love to take baths but I HATE how shallow a regular tub is. The drawback is, as a pp mentioned, you really can't find cast iron. It's a trade-off I guess.

Also, be careful with not having at least one bath in your home. If I remember correctly someone in my family was going to get rid of their tub but they were told in order to sell your home on the island it must have at least one full bath WITH tub. I could be wrong but look into that before making the decision to go with a shower stall only. Chat Icon

Having a deep tub was something I insisted on when we re-did out bathroom. I don't take baths often, but if/when I do, I really want a nice deep tub

You can get deeper than standard in cast iron.
however, in general the acrylics are deeper.

We went cast iron in our hall bath with a standardish size.

In our master we went for a 24" DEEP Kohler tea for two cast iron 5'5"tub. it is good for what it is as a bath tub. However, I'd hate to have to take a shower in it.

I'd say get something close to standard.

Regular tub. We have a deep soaker and I HATE it. Climbing into it is annoying, and bathing little kids is almost impossible. I've tripped and bruised my shins getting out, the kids have fallen climbing out of it. I HATE it Chat Icon

My vote is for a deep soaker. I had a cast iron and was hesitant about getting the deep soaker when we redid the baths. Now that the baths are completed I have no regrets. Love it! The shallow tubs looks odd and dated to me now.

We have 2.5 baths. The master bath has a shower and the guest bath has the deep soaker and shower head. Our guests love the roomy tub/shower and I sometimes prefer over the shower in the master too.

I vote for a regular tub. I think the extra depth of a soaker tub is a hazard getting in / out of.

If this were a master (or secondary bath), then I would vote for the soaker. I just wouldn't want to shower in a soaker tub, KWIM?

This. I had a giant soaker tub in my old house. Loved it when it was just DH and I... Hated it when I had kids.

Re: Deep soaker tub or regular tub

Thanks for all the responses. I am still on the fence. Mostly for the fact that I have not taken a bath in many years. I do like the look of the deep tubs. This is a bathroom that I shower in daily though and not sure I should go that way. If I had it my way, I would put a walk in shower in, but we may move at some point down the road. I guess I am torn as all I see in stores are these deep soakers versus the standard bathtub. Also, we are looking to get seamless glass doors on the tub, as I like the look and wondering if the higher tub will mean seeing more white tub and less glass, even though of course you will see the glass.
