Re: Dental work and pregnancy....
I did. I had an extraction during my 2nd trimester. No issues at all. As a matter of fact, aside from some minor pressure from the pulling, it didn't hurt much at all.

It was lidocaine w/no epinephrine. That's all you can have during pregnancy. It definitely doesn't last as long, but it was more than fine for the actual procedure. I just kept an ice pack on my cheek and took tylenol afterwards and I was fine. I did read your xpost and am not sure what your procedure specifically entails, but for my molar extraction it was fine. And your OB and dentist are right, an infection would be far worse for the baby than any procedure they'd do. I know it's scary, i was scared too.

This is also a molar, and extracting it was an option although they really want me to save the tooth...
I was told that the procedure and recovery would be similar...(whether I pulled it or did the apico)
The after doesnt scare me as much as the during... (as I had much more invasive oral surgery last year and I didnt find the recovery that bad)...
I just scared of what I feel during... esp because of the other novacaine..
Thanks for your reply!

Re: Dental work and pregnancy....
Apicoectomy? If you do this procedure, it will most feel like a root canal procedure. They just have to get rid of the bad part of your root. The novocaine will make you comfortable and you won't feel anything. The trouble with extracting molars is that they are your chewing teeth and extracting them causes shifting (the always want to move forward) of your teeth and could cause food trap problems. It is always best to save as many teeth as you can but in the end, it is your decision.
