How many of you have kids in college?
There is enough feedback out there on the view points of a college and professors, classes etc. If it was that important to you or your child then you could have easily asked the questions or done the research prior to choosing that college or class or even professor. It's part of being an adult, which last time I checked isn't that what college is for? Giving your kids the skills necessary to become active adults in society? Including coming in contact with people who may have differing views.
Should we start making it mandatory to ask all employers to start reporting to the states which way they lean politically?
So that would be a no and you really don’t know what is going on in the classroom. Thanks.
ANYONE who has gone to college knows how college works and knows what goes on within the walls of a lecture hall.
College is not the same as when we all went a million years ago. Once again people who have no clue and compare to their college days 20 years ago.
And you know this because you have one or two kids in college? I have a huge family and multiple family in many many many colleges...I also have immediate family who teach at colleges, are the Dean of the department. I have several clients that are professors and then those that have children in college. You are no more knowledgeable then anyone else because you have a kid in college.

Why do you ask? There are many other ways to be very familiar (or even more familiar) with what goes on at a college than by having a child that attends one.
Do you work in a college?
As a matter of fact I do. So your assumption that parents of students are the only ones who really now what’s going on is completely off base.

So you know how some things are being pushed on the kids. Unless you agree with not allowing students to have their own opinions anymore. This is a big issue and many parents have complained so it is not just a one professor and one college situation.

Nope. Disagree with you 100%. I also have a stepson who graduated from college last year and never felt that way. Students are encouraged to question things. And if a student has a problem or issue with something THEY a re the ones that should be addressing in, not mommy and daddy. College students are adults and should be treated as such by their parents

Parents should have no say in their child’s UNIVERSITY education. That is the student’s job.

Exactly! My parents did not have a clue what went on in my college lectures. College is when you let your kids grow up and handle themselves, parents should not be monitoring their education AT ALL. If a student isn't happy with how something is being taught, drop the class or transfer to another school.

Yes. And the kids take care of themselves. The professors help as well.
That being said, I have to sign forms here declaring what parties or religion I have been in, but only certain things. It’s basically akin to signing the forms you sign on the airplane coming into the US: are you a ww2 criminal, etc.?
There is a strange one for Scientology, though. I have to declare I have never had a reading.
I also don’t influence my students in any way. I’m more interested in them forming an argument and critically thinking. Trust me, the professor is not there to brainwash your child; they have better things to do.

DeSantis signs law requiring college faculty, students to take surveys on beliefs
Being a parent doesn't make you a better person and it certainly doesn't mean you know everything there is to know about college because your kids and your friends kids attend. Maybe you can say a non parent doesn't know anything about preschools. But college? Not so much. Plenty of adults with no children have ties to colleges. I also find it hilarious that you think professors want to brainwash your kids. You must also think 9/11 and Sandy Hook were fake.

To think you are the only one who "gets it" is ridiculous. And unless you're up your kids a$$, you really shouldn't know much about what's going on in their classes.
Any college age student who can't handle a professor with a differing opinion from their own or who needs mommy and daddy to protect them from the big, bad world and/or fight their battles maybe should rethink college. They are obviously too immature to be there. This isn't kindergarten.

I have cousins in college right now. Friends who teach at the college level. Friends with kids currently in college. There isn't a person on this forum who doesn't understand the college experience.
I am GLAD I have a close relationship with my children that they will tell me everything and anything (yes sometimes I don’t WANT to know things lol). Why do you think that because they are in college they wouldn’t still talk to their parents about classes? Who said anything about not handling a professor and parents fighting their battles? Obviously Desantis sees what is going on and if your cousins and friends kids go to college and don’t tell their parents anything, why would I believe YOU know what is going on?

So you know how some things are being pushed on the kids. Unless you agree with not allowing students to have their own opinions anymore. This is a big issue and many parents have complained so it is not just a one professor and one college situation.
LOLOLOL Is that what the right wing conspiracy sites are telling you to believe now?
Once again my kids are college age as their friends and friends of myself. You have no clue.

This has nothing to do with having a close relationship with your kids and everything to do with young adults maturing and growing up. If a student is uncomfortable with a professor's teaching methods or a college's ideologies they can drop the class or transfer out. The moron governor of FL doesn't get to dictate how a college level class should be taught. Leave that to the trained professionals.
Furthermore, stop trying to pretend like this is some widespread problem at the college level. It's not. Most of it is fabricated BS right up there with all the whiny right wing weirdos who think public schools are trying to "indoctrinate" their kids into some "liberal agenda" . lol Ridiculous nonsense.

You aren't doing your children any good by trying to fight their battles for them when it comes to issues with their professors. Are you going to call their employer the first time they make a rude remark or something your child might find offensive?
I would love to hear how that one goes. Your kid doesn't like what they are being taught, it's time to be an adult and make a choice......put up with it until the class is done or drop the class or switch schools.

Lololol. It’s obvious you have no clue not being a parent.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
You act like a professor would talk to you if you went to your children’s professor.
*Again*, you are NOT involved in your child’s UNIVERSITY education. And that’s probably the answer you would get from a professor, too. So you being a parent does not give you ANY more weight in this argument. It doesn’t give you any more weight in life, regardless. So cut it with “but I’m a parent.” Yes, congrats. You had sex, gave birth, and raised a human. This has nothing to do with an adult’s university education.

I’m starting to think she is one of “those” parents that goes down to talk to professors. Thankfully, there are privacy laws that stop that, but, wow, so embarrassing for the child.
