**UPDATE in OP** Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
DD is 3 years and 4 mos old. We started potty training 6 weeks ago and she did great right from the start. Peeing was under control within days, pooping was less successful, but not horribly so. In the first couple of weeks, it seemed like she was catching on and just needed some extra encouragement for pooping. Then, I don't know what happened - but this girl just WILL NOT poop on the potty. Doesn't EVER tell us she has to go, and has poop in her underwear all the darn time. And, recently, she even started PEEING in her pants!!!
She hardly ever tells us anymore that she has to go - pee or poop - and I dunno, I feel like this whole thing is unraveling before my eyes. I tried a silly sticker chart for pooping, but it did absolutely NOTHING.
I guess this is half venting, half looking for advice. I just don't know what to do and I'm very, very frustrated.
ETA: She *always* poops at HOME (or my parents' house). So, obviously, she has this under control in some way.
**UPDATE** On Monday night, I got serious about this problem!! I told DD she could ask for a pull up if she didn't want to use the potty. I promised her a lollipop every time she pooped in the potty. I created a sticker chart, which included a big fat picture of a toy I know she'd love to have. She'd earn a sticker for each poop in the potty, and 5 stickers earned the toy.
She has had a GREAT week since then!! As of just this afternoon, she earned her 5th sticker and got her toy!! She only had 1 accident since Monday, which was at my parents' house (I have to devise a plan for there, bc she really just will NOT go at their house for some reason!!). She never asked for a pull up (I don't think she really "got it"), but I felt good offering her the option.
I totally see how motivating the toy was - and having it in the house plus in picture on the sticker chart, was really, really motivating for DD. I just ordered prize #2 and she will have to earn 6 stickers for that. Here's to hoping the streak continues!!!

DS pees on the potty, and has for months, but we have kept him in pull-ups because of the poop. He won't do it in the potty at all. When we had him in underwear, he just pooped in that. I'd love to hear some advice too.

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
We are basically at the same place we were two months ago for poop.
He has gone on the toilet twice I think. It is beyond frustrating.
Yesterday he had to go soooo badly, so I kept putting him on the toilet and he refused. Normally he will wait till naptime and go in his pullup (which sux but I'd rather that then the dirty diapers which are awful) but yesterday we were at a party. He ate about 5 apples that day from apple picking - so, needless to say, it was an absolute mess. I even considered throwing him in my cousins shower
I am really trying to not freak out about this because I know it takes time, but I am wondering HOW long will this actually take????
So, I have zero advice. Damnnn these 6/28 babies and their pooping issues

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
There w/ you too (early July baby) & she got pee right away...no accidents was doing GREAT. Then the last 2-3 weeks she's squatting & I say are you peeing & she said, "I didn't know." I'm about to lose it.
She has YET to poop on the potty. If panties are on she'll go in the panties (we've been placing the poop in the potty after she goes).
I don't know what to do.
At school we had her in pull ups until the teacher called us out...so she's been holding in even the pee until my MIL picks her up & then she goes but they said she has until the end of Oct.
I don't know what's going on lately.

I suppose it's comforting to know we're not alone!
I'm off to clean up poop-in-the-underwear #3 for this morning.

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
We had the exact same issue. I was told to back off. Leave the potty out and just encourage her to sit - by asking her if she has to go. The problem with us is - she starts to do well, then we put her in big girl pants she starts having more accidents (2 day 1, 5 day 2, 10 day 3 etc) then backs off completely for a few days. I figure she is just not ready. They told me at school that if we push it - it will be harder. If I have to constantly ask her if she has to go and she isn't bothered by dirty pants then she just isn't there.
It is really hard. BTW DD#2 is saying Poopy in my diaper and knows all the vocabulary for the potty and is wanting to sit (she has never gone on the potty though)- at this rate my 16.5 month old will be trained before my 3 year old.
Etd to add some days she will sit 20 mins trying to go and then go 5-10 mins after she gets off the potty.

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
DS went through that phase while potty training too!
He was training for a month or so and doing really well then all of a sudden he would cry and not go poop on the potty and hold it in until he was constipated.
I started doubling the rewards when he would poop and in no time, we were back on track.
Good luck!

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
OK we just had poop-in-the-underwear #4 for the day when I was at Ethan Allen with her. I really think I might EXPLODE.
I guess I have to put her back in diapers/pull-ups.
I am just at a major, major frustration point (it doesn't help that I feel like no matter what I say these days, she just DOES NOT LISTEN).
Remind me: This, too, shall pass. Right?

It will!
Did she eat anything that would make her poop so much? Jack was pooping uncontrollably bc we went apple picking. Does she normally go that much?
I don't know that I would put her back in pull ups yet. How does she do with the nanny? I feel like sometimes kids rebel with their parents KWIM?
ETA: Which Ethan Allen did you go to? I used to work there and my aunt is a designer!

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
DD poops in a pull up.
She would go on the potty, but then held it in too long and it hurt too much for her to go.
She has peed in the pull up on occassion, but she usually asks for a pull up to do poops. We tell her to tell us when she is done so we can change her.
I ask her if she wants to sit on the potty, but she says no.
IDK if that helps you, but this is what works for us right now.

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
We are having the same issue. She is fully trained for pee, but REFUSES to poop on the potty.
At first we refused to give her a diaper or puul-up, even when she asked. But then she'd hold it until we gave her a diaper at night. She'd FLIP every time we'd even mention going poop on the potty.
When I saw the pediatrician for TJ's 2 month visit (I am ALWAYS asking questions about Mads at my other kids' ped appointments ) I told her and she told me to STOP pushing the issue as it had become a complete power struggle. If there is one thing a toddler has complete control over; it's what goes in and out of their body..
She also told me to give Mads a diaper/pull-up whenever she asked reminding me that at least Mads was recognizing when she needed to "go". The last thing we want her to do is withhold because that could cause constipation and make it painful (and MORE reason to refuse). We do ask that she poop in her pull-up in the bathroom though. She doesn't have to sit on the potty, but at least go in the bathroom.
So far it's been working. I'm hoping one day that she'll just decide to go on the potty on her own. Or at least find a husband willing to wipe her @ss for her......

I know, 4 poops in a day is a lot!!! She didn't poop at all yesterday, so I am thinking it is just back up poop - plus, I think she doesn't let it ALL out at once - sometimes it's just small little turds.
She definitely does BETTER with the nanny, so maybe that's part of it as well. She is HORRIFIC with my parents (they watch her 1 day/week), okay with us, and definitely at her best with the nanny. She's okay at school, though she did have 2 accidents (pee) in 1 day last week - but the teacher said they had broken routine w/ all the rain (they didnt go outside) and didn't have scheduled pee breaks, so they were going to make her go regardless if she says she does or not.
As for Ethan Allen - I went to the one in Manhasset! Where does your aunt work??

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
SaraH and Porrus - I *wish* DD would ask for a pull-up! Like your doc said, I agree that it shows that she knows she has to go. DD just goes anytime she feels like it!
Do you think I should TELL her to ask for a pull-up?? Or is that stupid?
ETA: She actually doesn't seem to discriminate between the pull-up and underwear -- and I can't decide if that's a good thing or bad thing! Like - she doesn't know that the pull-up is easier/better for pooping and peeing ...

Not stupid at all. That's what we did with DD. She needs to go and at this point I'm not pushing her pooping on the potty. I'd rather her go in the Pull up then not at all, KWIM?
But I agree it's very frustrating, especailly since she has gone on the potty.

This is what I did with Jack yesterday morning. I could tell he had to go soooo badly, and he was trying on the toilet but it wouldn't happen - so I asked if he wanted a pullup to go in, and he said yes. Turns out he didn't poop then, decided to wait till we got to the party we were going to

Holy literal sh*t.
The one day I'm off from work she decides to poop FIVE TIMES IN ONE DAY IN HER PANTS.
Talk about out of control.
How does one stay calm?? It is just not in my nature, even though I *know* I need to.
I need the fast fwd button right now.

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
DD was the same with pooping. she was great with peeing but it took 2 or 3 months for her to want to poop on the potty. she's almost 2 1/2. what works with her is bribery. she gets a "special treat" for any poop on the potty. her specials treats are a cookie, piece of chocolate, cupcake, lollipop, etc... she knows if she poops, no matter what time it is, she gets a treat. this has worked wonders for her. i have also heard of people using little dollar tree toys as prizes. DD was not into the stickers. we did the special treats with pee and then stopped giving them to her and told her it was just for poop. sometimes she forgets to ask for the treat so we don't give it. good luck. she will come around. i also used pull ups all the time. i dind't want to deal with a mess in the store or at someone's house. now she is completely in underwear.

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
awww she will get it soon...it's good your still keeping her in the underwear. Hoepfully eventually she wont like the feel of the poop and will start to go on the toilet when she's out and about. It's great that she's pee pee trained though. The only reason DS did great with pooping on the potty right away is b/c of his GI issues/severe constipation...it turns out that pooping on the potty is much easier for him and he knows it (he used to go on all fours prior to being trained and strain to poop...I felt so bad for him). I guess gravity helps him lol. Like i said it sounds like K is on the right track I know the sticker chart didnt work, but what about a little prize box that she can choose a little something from when she does it? (fill it with cheap $1 toys/books)

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
DS slept with a pull-up so he always waited til it went on and then he pooped then when I really startedletting him know that wasn't ok he'd hold it for 3 or 4 days at a time I nevermadeabig deal ofit and he just eventually went on his own more and more.
All I could suggest would be start taking her to the potty at timed intervals again and don't wait for her to say she has to go (pee or poo). And try not to make to big a deal of the poop accidents. I know its frustrating. Sorry I'm not more help.

Re: Potty training woes (especially POOP) - Please help!!
ok, i have ZERO real advice since i havent been through this but if i were a kid, i think this would help ...
if you made a big deal of if when YOU go "poo poos" on the potty, maybe it will make them want to? high five each other - your husband, and dance around all happy? (even if you arent going, if you sense they need to ... go in there, close the door and say "mommy needs quiet time for poo poo on the potty" and then come out and make a big deal?) maybe that will make them want to go, do what you are doing? they get high fives and lots of praise?
they are very into doing what you do at this age right?
i really have no clue, just thought it might help
i am SO NOT looking forward to potty training
