Developlement for preemies
Hi Everyone..
If your multiples where preemies how were their developlement milstones compared to a full term baby???
My twins were due on Nov 5th and were born October 2nd (35 weekers).. I have been reading that they will be two months behind a full term baby.. and of course I don't want to believe this.
TIA

Re: Developlement for preemies
My twins were born at 35 weeks also. They hit their milestones right on schedule, sat up at 5-6 months, crawled at 7-8 months, and walked at 12 months. They always fell within the range given for the milestone, although more toward the middle/back side of the range rather then the beginining. They are 2 now, and you would never know they were preemies.

Re: Developlement for preemies
Mine were born at 35 weeks alos. One was IUGR so he was a bit slow on his milestones in the beginning, about a month behind, but his brother was right on time. By 9 months they were both right on target.
You also have to remember that there is a big range on all milestones not just at 6 months. It is usually like 4 - 7 months, etc.

Re: Developlement for preemies
My preemies were 8 weeks early and were delayed in their physical development. They both did not sit up on their own untill 12 months . One did crawl at 8 months and they other still Military crawls at 16 months. The same twin gets feeding therapy because he used to gag on everything he ate. They are cruising on furniture but has not let go to stand or walk on their own. They come from a family of late walkers , their sister did not walk untill 17 months. So they do get Services once a week for PT and 1a week for feeding. they will be looked at their adjusted age which is 2 months behind

Re: Developlement for preemies
One of my twins walked last month (at 11 months) and he was born at 34.5 weeks. The second twin just started walking well this week. They will be 1 year old tomorrow.
Early on there were some delays but they catch up really quickly.
