Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
How often do you apply diaper cream/ointment?
DS is 14 months and his entire life I have always applied a generous amount of A&D ointment with each diaper change.
The reason I ask is because the new daycare needs a form each week with permission to apply cream. Which is perfectly fine but it got my curiosity going.
Of course it made me question myself for a second but ultimately I think it's what I am comfortable doing...BUT maybe now that he's a toddler I need to not do it so much

That's what I thought - I mean I figured the cream made it all comfy-comfy but even at his current daycare they look at me weird.

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
first look at lucas..... i cant believe you cut his hair off.. he looks soooo much older!!!!
to answer your question.. i only apply it now if i know he wont get as frequent of a diaper (if we go out) or if its really hot and humid out.

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
Really you only need to put it on if your kid has any kind of irritation or diaper rash, not with every change. I only put any kind of cream on if the kid has a sore botty.

Sure -this was haircut #3 - which I let DH do on his own again and again was too short...we have a big sign that says Lucas gets a #3 clip from now on I'll post them!

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
My ped told me only to use the ointment when there is a rash or a #2 change.
When he pees I dont glob anything on. I was told this makes it TOO sensitive.

I only put it on when DD has a rash, which luckily is pretty rare.

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
I put diaper cream on after her bath (the last diaper change before she goes to bed) unless she has some sort of irritation then I would do it more often. Thankfully this really hasn't ever been the case!

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
Troy is the same age (he'll be 15 mos in two weeks) and I only put on vaseline at night (glob it on) and only other times is if I see signs of any irritation.

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
I put A&D ointment on after poopie diaper changes and at bedtime. Ped said no need otherwise.
I use Balmex or Desitin if there is any redness. He had one bad diaper rash, and ped told me to use Butt Paste which cleared it up in a few days.
At Thomas daycare, you fill out a form once giving permission and instructions to apply diaper cream. I sent over a tube of Balmex and instructed them to use at any sign of redness. So, at daycare, he doesn't get A&D after poopie diapers either.

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
DD is 18 months and I've applied it twice. I only do it when she has diaper rash. I use the "butt paste" and it will go away by the next day.
Her skin seems to be okay, so I didn't put it on.

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
I only apply it at night before she goes to bed, after her bath. Regular diaper changes get either powder (because I like how it smells) or nothing. She rarely gets diaper rashes...
But really, it's whatever you're comfortable with.

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
I use A&D with diaper changes where she has been in the wet diaper for a while (ie - first thing in the morning), the diaper change before bed, and with #2 changes.
If it's just a pee change, I usually don't use it.

Re: Diaper Cream/Ointment Question
I don't use anything unless they get a rash for some reason. DS only had a few rashes and that was when we started table food. DD had more rashes but that was because I was using diapers that she was allergic to and didn't put 2 and 2 together. .
