DS has to be around 19lbs now. He's almost 4 months old and the infant carrier is just way too heavy for me. I said I'll switch in May but now I feel that it may be too soon, so maybe I'll switch in June. I dont know if he has full neck and head control yet, KWIM? Did you switch too early and regret it? It seems like such a PITA to switch back if I think I did it too early. Maybe I'll just try it in the house and see how he sits in it.

Why don't you just continue to use the infant seat and just don't carry the baby in it? Keep it in your car or take the baby out and bring the carrier in separately if you need to. This is what i've been doing since DD is about 5 months old. She's 8.5 months now and trying to hold off switching to a convertible seat (since we'll need to buy 3 of them!).

DS is now 6 months and 18.4lbs. hes been in the convertible seat for a month now and im so much happier! hes comfortable in it and i dont have to carry that stupid thing anymore. the only downside is when he falls asleep and i have to wake him to take him out. or if he falls asleep in the stroller and i wake him to put him in the car.

I switched DD at 6 months once she hit 19lbs... I think she had already reached the height limit.
It was an adjustment for me because she ALWAYS fell asleep in the car and with the carrier, despite how heavy she was, she always stayed asleep because I just carried the whole seat in but once we switched to the convertible she woke up every time I had to take her out.
